Pretty cool, but if your scoot is above 50cc you won't be racing according to info from the site.
"Enviromoto" Scooter Class 1st Place: $100 Gift Certificate to Enviromoto. 2nd Place: $50 Gift Certificate to Enviromoto. 3rd Place: Brightly Colored Safety Vest.
"Scooter class. Ah, everyone in this world hates Scooters – except that everyone also loves to ride them. Scooters must be under 50cc and must have a single drive ratio. Electric scooters of similar power to a 50cc engine or smaller will be accepted on a case-by-case basis. Scooters cannot have pedals. Be prepared for battle as the time for sissy scootin’ is over."
"Part 2: Scooter Requirements
Chassis: Scooters cannot have pedals or have once have had pedals. Scooters must be of sturdy construction and in good condition. The frame must be the load-bearing element of the construction. Maximum tire radius is 18 inches. Engine and Fuel: The engine maintain at least the original block and will be limited in displacement to no more than 50 cc’s. Nitrous oxide and nitro methane fuel additives are illegal. High octane ‘Race Fuel’ (Torco, CAM2, etc…) is allowed. Transmission: Transmission must be automatic type or centrifugal clutch with a fixed final gear ratio. Brakes: Brakes must be fully functional on both front and rear and be capable of bringing the scooter to a stop independently. A working brake light is required as is a functioning ignition kill system. All of these systems will be tested prior to racing. Nothing may protrude from the scooter which may act to puncture, slice or otherwise do harm to competitors or their machines. Noise: Because the Velodrome is in a partially residential area, we’re asking all competitors to muffle their exhaust as much as possible, gentlemen’s request. We don’t have a maximum dB limit; the level of noise is totally up to us. You know what’s too loud for the street. Update: No safety wiring required! Shedding Parts: Racers whose scooter lose parts during a race (air filter, silencer can, etc..) are subject to an automatic DNF (Did Not Finish). This is yet another reason to thoroughly race-prep your bike. Lock it down! Markings: It’s required that you mark these important safety items with a sticker or brightly colored tape:
Mark the kill switch with the word ‘KILL’ Mark the Open and Closed positions on the fuel tap with a big ‘ON’ and ‘OFF’
You ought to mark these things so that a corner worker can shut off the fuel to your engine, and stop the engine from running should you wipe out. If you wreck and can’t reach the fuel tap or kill switch, while the engine is still running and gas pouring all over your head, the corner worker can stop you from becoming a big Hollywood explosion. All Levers: Brakes, clutch, decompression and throttle must quickly close after being depressed or turned. No sticky brakes or throttles. Levers should be of the ‘ball end’ variety, no pointy levers. Levers should not extend more than ½” beyond the handlebar. Required Dangerous Components Removal: The following items must be removed:
Any extraneous racks…if your scooter has a rack built into the frame, it may remain, but any spring-loaded arms or periphery must be removed Saddlebags Headlamp and Taillight may remain on the bike, but must be covered with an ‘X’ of a durable tape, covered entirely with a durable tape or just removed.
These items are removed for your safety. Should you wreck, you would want as few things to stab or cut you as possible. Or mess up your bike if you land on them, or scatter across the track. The idea is to keep the racing scooters themselves as simple as possible. The Race Start: LeMans starts (see the General Rules section above) for each heat will be arranged with electric- and kick-started scooters randomly gridded at the front of the pack and scooters with external motor-assisted start randomly gridded at the rear. Motor-assist racers will be allowed one mechanic at their side on the start line, both mechanic and racer will run to their machine and both starting and removal of any independent stand will be done by the mechanic. Communication: Riders should vocally alert those they are passing using announcements like “PASSING on your LEFT (RIGHT)!” or “TRACK LEFT (RIGHT)!” It is the responsibility of the passing rider to overtake safely. Hearing: Use of headphones or musical devices that impair the ability of a racer to hear or communicate with other racers is prohibited. Being Lapped: Riders being lapped must yield at the first reasonable opportunity. Dueling: When two riders are vying for position, the leading rider does not necessarily have to yield position to the challenging rider. However, a rider may not block the challenging rider’s progress; this is considered to be highly unsportsmanlike behavior. Don’t be a douche: Get over and slog it out side by side. Emergencies: Racers must yield to emergency medical personnel. No exceptions. Ribbon: Busting through any of the course ribbons will result in that rider placing himself at the back of the field. If a rider breaks a ribbon and resumes before the last place position, he can be ejected from the heat immediately and scored as a DNF (Did Not Finish). Swearing: Use of profane or abusive language or other unsportsmanlike behavior will not be tolerated. Take it easy, kids are about. Save it for the after party, you crazy guy."
But then there's this section... Maybe bring some friends if you have a 70cc scoot?
"Part 10: New Classes
Remember the No Whining bit? Well, some of you just can’t simmer down because you want a class for your 1938 diesel-powered Whizzer with a skip-tooth chain; and 30 of your friends have the exact same bikes and race all the time and it’s so super duper fun. Well, here’s your chance! If you can squirrel together five (5) of your friends to race, we’re happy to add a new class for whatever you can come up with all on your own. Tricycles, pit bikes, Razor scooters – whatever. If you bring weird [read: awesome] stuff, expect us the lay down abritrary judgements on safety not mentioned elsewhere. Consider it a badge of honor for your weirdness that you get judged more harshly than everyone else. Get to it, Pachelbel."
