alright ill make the effort then, radioshack might not even sell that stuff anymore since they've become best buy 2.0, I wonder if they're even still open haha. harbor freight shows some online for $3.49 and it looks small so i'll go pickup that Actually Radio Shack now is opposite Best Buy IMHO, They split the store in two and rent out half to Sprint and it is just cellphones. The Radio Shack half is back to basic pieces and parts. No big ticket items. They have all the slot-wall stuff and the CB/Scanner/Radar dectector gadget stuff but the Stereos/Big Screen TV/Computer stuff is all gone. It looks like they are trying to go back to the "Go buy the TV at the big box store and come here to get the stuff to hook it up" days. I am not sure it will fly with rents going for $100 a square foot. You gotta sell a lot of $2 patch cables to crack that nut!

it only came with one gasket, and the actual install instructions don't mention measuring squish. I am pretty sure it is meant to be the right squish out of the box, but I will check anyways.

Manufacturing tolerances vary greatly with these engines,to get the best performance out of aftermarket parts, basic measurements MUST be done and squish is a big one!!

I lucked out with my malossi kit on the s9. after base gasket settled it was a squish of .9mm, but on the naraku kit for the r50x it was really low, at .3mm, or less. I do believe that the higher end kits are generally closer to what you want, but still better safe than sorry. Piston crashing into the head doesn't sound like fun, and having crap performance after all the money and time spent isn't that fun either!

BTW, did you have to do any modifications to the drive boss or anything when you put on the hoca variator? Mine seems as wrong as possible right out of the package...

I think I had to remove the kickstart, but it was already removed when I installed so not sure. Getting a battery from amazon, should have this thing attempting and hopefully running soon.

Just hooked up the wiring for the temp gauge and when turned on it displays 65-75, hovers around there. doesn't ever change when I start the scooter and drive it. Anyone had a similar problem? should I replace the thermocouple? EDIT: according to this www.yorkwire.com/International-Thermocouple-and-Extension-Wire-Color-Codes.htmlyellow is pos red is neg I installed thermocouple leads backwards. EDIT2: after some recrimping of wires I have now gotten it to work. before started it showed 97F which is probably what it was in my closed garage. After starting it slowly rose, got it up to 135 after a few minutes. What temps should I be seeing at what positions? (Air cooled, 65cc BBK, 2 stroke)

I took it out and cruising around the neighborhood half throttle then stopping it goes around 190.
WOT brought me down from 190 to like 180.
when I stopped and idled it went up to like 200 and when I turned it off then back on (no start) just to check the temps after like 15 seconds it was at 270, went up to 280 then came back down.
Is this normal? Seems too rich WOT?
I think the temp gauge is accurate, it said 85F before I started it and the thermometer on a clock I had said 84.5F
It's got a 100 MJ in it, maybe go down to 90? Seems really rich to be getting 180F@WOT.
Also got it up to like 53 near 10k RPM.

Between 300-350f at long WOT stretches seems to be the sweet spot. Much less and you're leaving power on the table from being too rich and much more and you enter the danger zone...

swapped in the 90, feels better.
temps were 180-190 just cruising around mid throttle. would rise to 200ish at stop/idle
temps were in the 170s when WOT.
After I turned the engine off at idle it would rise to 285 and then start to cool off.
Do I just have a good cooling system? It's pretty hot outside also.
I'm so lost tuning this thing. Should I go down in MJ size again?

Temps look great, proceed with great caution if down jetting..I'd drop the jet size and take a SHORT ride to see what it says.Remember that part throttle is the killer as piped 2T's tend to have a lean sag in that region...Lifting the jet needle(dropping the clip) will richen the part throttle range, lots of times a thinner(richer) jet needle is needed to be safe..

I think my idle circuit is rich and the screw is on the leanest setting.
Still getting temps of 190s for mid throttle, 170s for WOT and like 200 when coming to a stop.
Changed rollers from 5g to 4g, goes at 8.7-8.9k RPM now, sweet spot.
Should I downjet again from 90? My temps are looking good...
