Your trying to tune with air which is very inconsistent. Changes in temperature, humidity and elevation all affect air density and this is why you will never have a consistent tune. Yes those will affect a tuned carb but it will be minimal because the fuel that is more consistent is tuned properly. If your theory worked we would all split a 2 dollar roll of duct tape instead of having 40 dollars of jets a piece. Wow you make it sound like it changes every day, and you need to retune constantly. I don't have to retune but twice a year because my carb is tuned properly beginning with the main. If my main were wrong and I tried to regulate air then I'd have more inconsistencies.

Wow you make it sound like it changes every day, and you need to retune constantly. Prob not so rough on you FL fellas, but here in winter I may go out in the day when it's 40-50 and run rich and then run lean at night when it's 20. Really fun stuff. Last year from summer to winter I transitioned across 10 jet numbers and then back down when it started warming up. Depends on the setup though. With stock airboxes, snorkels in place, etc... they don't react so much. Open air filters are horrible for changing weather. Exactly my point.

Yes but if the air screw was all the way in like his was then you would never run good enough to worry about the main.

Yes but if the air screw was all the way in like his was then you would never run good enough to worry about the main. This is true but his setup with an open filter and 75 main, clip at it's richest and using tape to restrict the flow through the filter it will never be consistent. A/f screw or not. It's been an issue since the thread was created and will continue to be. Why advise proper jetting to another and not follow his own advise. Again just my two cents. I'll but out now.

It's been an issue since the thread was created and will continue to be. Why advise proper jetting to another and not follow his own advise. Again just my two cents. I'll but out now. I sort of agree with Dave in the manner of properly tuning the carb itself. Air is an inconsistent bitch and you will never get that part tuned right all the time. That's why cars now a days have so many sensors just for air/fuel mixture. The Injectors don't richen or lean out, it's controlled by air intake generally. However that's because there's 2 sensors before the air hits the piston (MAF and Temp) thus the computer figures out on its own what volume of air to allow into the cylinder. Then there's 2 more sensors on the way out (O2x2) telling it the result, then letting it recalculate the air / fuel mix. This happens thousands of times a minute because a computer can do it. We can't. So jetting (idle & main) is crucial to keep it as constant as possible. Yes, you can mess with the airflow from day to day and that may patch up a lean or rich run, but truthfully it's easier and more consistent to control the fuel and let the air difference be minimal by having one constant air intake system. I don't understand it all myself, I've yet to really "tune" my carb. I probably couldn't tell the difference between a rich and lean running engine if I listened to it just yet. But I will work on that soon. I also understand where the kid is coming from. I too have been there and will mostly likely be there many times. I change one simple thing and it affects something the least likely.

Of course you agree with dave...lol When did we get into cars and computers... I agree duck tape is a bad idea I prefer my coke bottle better I can adjust the air flow just like one of those fancy alien nose filters. Its worked great for over a year and hasn't melted or anything. he is not running on open filter! He has always stated that it partially covered.
P.S. computers in cars are overrated what did they actually do for us? much better gas millage? more reliability? Make them cheaper to repair?
P.P.S stop ganging up on the poor guy...lol...but i have had fun tormenting dave...peace

If you ask me, computers in cars are a nightmare. I spent 4 months trying to diagnose a stupid code, changing 3/4 of my emissions system only to end up back to the original problem. I've pulled my hair out chasing ghosts. Coke bottle? Care to share? I want to take the airbox off of my VX50 so bad.

Mine just fell off my scooter and I bought and open filter"performance" cause i didn't know any better and it was $8 dollars...lol.....Coke bottle is to hard to explain. I'll post a pic later if anyone is interested. I go out and take a pic now but its scary dark out(you know vampires etc). The carb on my wifes bike never ran right until I got the air screw worked out. which is all i was trying to add. I was just razzing you and dave a bit

I was just razzing you and dave a bit Vampires, you mean those friggin things they call Mosquitoes? That air screw is a pain in my ass. I can't remember where mine is set to, but it's going to change soon. My new exhaust will be in my hands tomorrow. I'm going to put that on first before the BBK and I'm wondering where to jet the carb to. After I get used to tuning that a bit, because tuning on stock sucks and doesn't do much, I'll play with weights and springs and such too. I'm working with a limited budget myself, which I'm slowly killing my credit with. I've been told not to ditch the carb that's on the VX so I'll make the best out of it. But part of that means I have to learn how to tune it right. So when I see posts where people fight over air control VS fuel control, I get all twitchy because it confuses me lol. I believe I posted somewhere about putting a ball valve in line of my air intake just to control the airflow. Sounded good in my head, maybe not so much on the forum. So there, you have another dumb idea to shoot at.

Plasti dipped the brake levers. Went out for a spin. Shifted at lower RPMs than oil switch, Top speed 41-43mph instead of 46 before the oil switch, and idle is still somewhat rough at lower rpms/speed. Going to lean it out and see if it improves/get's worse. will test tommorow. oh and I added the ~1-1.5 gallons of 32:1 gas to whatevers left of the 0.5 gal of 80:1 gas. Ran about the same. My conclusion is that the different oil has changed the afr more than the different ratio has.

The turn signals on my M1 are the same as yours up front. Those suckers blind me when I go to make a turn at night. I'm tempted to paint the top of them.
Question, has your rear brake lever always had the end "missing" ?

Question, has your rear brake lever always had the end "missing" ? Was like that when I bought it. I just assumed someone dumped it. It doesn't really even feel like metal more like cheap plastic levers.
