Yup the stud just keeps coming out as I tighten. I took the cylinder off and saw that threads were being pulled out. I'm glad Brent has an explanation on what to do. This sucks one thing after the other.

Stripped studs suck! My dad went throuugh it too, i think the coily things were going to cost like 60bux for the coil and the tool to put it in. Good luck. This site has EVERYTHING anybody could ever need to know about these things.

Good luck with the repair. Take your time on it because if it the new holes or threads are drilled or tapped at the wrong angle it may make the stud unusable. If you use JB Weld or a thread locker on the insert, make sure you give it time to setup. These things are designed to lock into place, but I think they need all the help they can get in our cases.

I did 2 sets in a week. One held no real torque before moving. The other is doing well. I've used Time-Serts for quite a few things and generally I've been very happy and don't have issues with them.

Well the time sert is in now. It was a little crooked. Not perfect but I got the cylinder on. I hope I didn't screw this up. I took my time, but still ended up a little off. I will find out tomorrow. I don't want to buy a whole new engine. I just hope I never have to do that again. I cleaned up all the grease and grime off of everything though. At least it looks good now. Til tomorrow wish me luck.

I was coing to buy the Time-Sert kit, but the Left Crankcase is only $62. I might go with the case since i all ready have a gasket set.

The problem with buying case halves is they often don't match your existing. If the cylinder mounting decks don't line up you'll spend more money having them machined to match than buying a complete used motor or new set of cases. Just an FYI.

I've had a hell of a time with cases matching. I'd greatly prefer fixing one that lines up vs hoping the one I bought is going to work. No experience with Taiwan and Japanese made cases though, so maybe it's an option there.
Hope it works dashrite. If the stud is a little off angle it should still work as long as it fits through the stud holes.

Success so far. I had a little leak in the beginning of the day while It was warming up. I expected that. I tightened the head bolts just a little after it cooled being very careful not to strip anymore. All seems well, I hear no leak at the cylinder and it runs fine. I don't want to do that again. In the meantime I am going to look for another engine to just totally rebuild. I'm kicking myself in the ass for not buying the scooter on craigslist for $100. It was a copy of the Vento. Not thinking ahead at the time to buy it and use it for parts. I have some parts on order so now the long drawn out wait for parts from Racing Planet.

If you depend on it, it pays to have a spare engine sitting around. Even if it's just a stocker. Something you can bolt in, check the tune, and get back to riding in a pinch. At least you've got the best local market for finding a donor scoot.
