I recently purchased a 50cc top trophy cylinder kit for an engine I was building but had to put it in my current engine due to my old cylinder getting old. Plus it gave me a chance to test it out and figure out if I need to adjust porting any on it and where the powerband is going to be vs where it needs to be.
Overall impressions in stock form it its a good performing cylinder with a big increase over stock and a very small step down from an Athena sport aluminum big bore kit. I'm going to try and do some very mild porting to raise the powerband just a hair but for a stock application it would be fine. With my Leo Vince zx-r the power kicks in around 7000 due to my exhaust and the cylinder kicks in around 8000 and holds till around 9000 but still has enough pull to get me up to 10000 rpm and do about 56-57mph with my malossi over range. Acceleration is pretty good during any rpm in the powerband and under 7000 rpm it still has good power compared to stock and a big boost over my Athena kit believe it or not. Its not a wheelie machine per say but sometimes if I hit it just right it will pull the front tire off the ground and a little higher than the Athena kit did but doesn't hold it off the ground as long as the Athena would.
Gas mileage is up from stock and the Athena kit too. Not by much but I think I'm back to around 70mpg maybe a little more if I'm being nice that day. Throttle position is slightly more than the Athena but way less than stock cruising at 45mph. Its about 1/8 throttle at 45mph. After 50mph I'm closer to 1/4 throttle and going up hills its about 1/2 throttle unless its a really big hill then its around 3/4 throttle.
I'm hoping its going to have enough power to pull an upgear kit with my malossi over range but I dont think with a stock variator it might only pull a 5-15% upgear if your a heavier rider. Then again most people have a heavier bike and weigh more than me. My bike is about 177 lbs complete but mines closer to 160-170 thanks to a hit and run weight reduction kit someone was nice enough to install for me... I weigh about 160-180 with all of my gear I carry with me every day so I'm not much lighter than some riders though. When I dont have my gear though it drops 30-40 lbs off my extra weight and it makes a night and day diff.
Overall I think its a great performing kit if your determined to stay at 50cc or if you don't like the feel of a big bore. This kits a blast to drive and I feel safer than I did with my Athena because it was too peaky. Launching into my powerband with this kit feels good and shoots me across the intersection before most cars and even a few slower ones have tried me to look cool in front of people and they usually look stupid because it keeps up or pulls ahead of some. Dont expect to beat a corvette though if you do its probably broken down on the side of the road or he missed all the gears.
