Hi. My scoot is in need of a valve adjustment. Would this make it hard to start, really so in colder temps? Not talking freezing, but low 50s. Any help would be awesome. Matty

Yes this could makke it hard to start, even unable to start, or cause stalling.

Thanks. I believe 'unable' is the operative word today. Looks like the bus until Saturday. Thanks.

K. It really only takes a couple minutes to do the actual valve adjustment, but if your scooter is like mine all the plastics have to come off to get to the valves in the first place, LOL. I got my set of feeler guages at O'Reilly's for under $7.

I am taking it to a tech for this time, never done it myself, and not confident about. He is going to let me watch though. Thanks.

A good valve check is a must on any scooter is a good idea IMO!

It's also easy as hell. The hard part is getting to the valves like Goosey stated. The whole thing can take 15 minutes or the better part of an hour depending on the model.

That's why its really cool that the guy I'm taking it to is going to let me watch him. I'm not a total buffoon mechanically, just no real experience.
And the help on this site has been awesome, scooter brothers & sisters! Thanks!

It's worth mentioning that the spec for the valve lash on these things is pretty small, on my bike the tune-up sticker says something like .0015". It takes the smallest, paper thin feeler gauge on my set; I'm sure many sets don't come with one small enough.

Well, the valve adjustment is complete. I feel I could have done it, but I'm glad I had someone there. Scoot still does not run right. Does not want to get gas; yet carb functioning well. Any ideas? Thanks!

Are you sure it's a fuel issue? A better spark plug could make a difference in starting and running smoothly.

You could be correct, and I'm going to take that advice. It is running now, and back to 'normal', yet does not like starting cold at all. I have a NGK in now, but I'm ordering a Iridium one this evening. Seems that the populace here says they rule the roost. I am also thinking of upping my main jet, and going to a 'performance' air filter. Any advice/suggestions for cold starting? Once again, you peeps rock. Matty
