Yesterday I started the scoot and it idled for a minute then died but started back up and ran fine. Left work lastnight and going down the road it cut out on me and took a good minute of turning over to start but it did and made it home. well just tryed to start it a few minutes ago and nothing, she wants to , I can't hear to compression in it , I checked the plug and there's spark and it's getting gas but still nothing. What else should I check? I know my variator needs to be replaced but I don't see that causing it not to start and I don't need it to be something major as to this is my everyday rider too. Thanks for the help in advance.

Stupid question. Does your kickstand have a kill switch?
Check the boot. Check all your clamps are tight on the carb/intake, check exhaust and make sure it's tight too. The basic checklist can't hurt. Also vacuum hoses are snug, fuel is flowing (even though it's getting gas it may not be enough?) Squirt some starting fluid in it and see if that helps. Cover the snorkle/air intake with your hand if you can while you crank it too.
When was the last time you did a valve clearance adjustment?

No kill switch on the kickstand and I was going to do a valve job this weekend cause it's do for one. Guess I'll be doing it in the morn as to right now I'm waiting on my rid to work. I'll go though and check everything in the morning when I have more time. Thanks

Work the kick lever with your hand slowly. It should resist you with a lot of pressure. If it feels weak then you prolly have a tight valve.

Ok guys don't laugh at me- I'm a 4t noob From what I understand if the valves are too tight then the rocker arms could be holding them open slightly which results in low compression/hard start/no start? Do I have it correct?

If problem started after working on it , recheck your work.

Haven't worked on it lately and I was thinking about the valves so I figured I would ask. I'll check them in the morning and I'll post my results to when I get it going.

When you're doing all of that dbl check your spark plug gap. The electrode wears down over time, widening the gap. :2cents:

OK, so I checked the valve s and they were OK,changed the spark plug and checked to see if it was getting spark and it is, changed out the CDI and still nothing, looked over all the wiring and there fine too. Right now I've got the trickle charger on it because I almost drained the battery messing with it. I'm stumped

Voltage rectifier? Did you check your spark plug gap? Tried giving it a compression test? Check your air filter? Some things to trouble shoot if you're getting fuel and spark.

If it's got fuel and spark- next thing is compression...

Don't have a compression tester but I can probably get one, I'll check the idle jet tomorrow morning. Today's been a busy day.

What should the compression be around? I finally got a tester and gonna check it tonight once I get off work, just not sure what range it should be in. I know there's a video or Tech somewhere if you could just guide me in that direction. Thanks
