M13/Mordeth Crash (Warning : Graphic)

I didn't see anything here on him so maybe this is the first!

M13/Mordeth lives in Taiwan with his wife and young son, he does motorcycle and scooter tours and vlogs, he also uploads them to youtube and they are always interesting to watch!
I've seen him rescue stray dogs, help out other riders who get into accidents and have no insurance, and he gives out alot of advice on riding cycles and scooters.
He was giving a group tour ride (he is a teacher who moved to Taiwan from Canada, and does cycle tours for side income) a week ago, and while he was leading the group ride he was looking back to check on the riders, some new to riding etc no doubt too! Anyway, he somehow crossed the centerline when he was looking back and hit a low partition wall or barrier, his small dog riding with him and the cycle bounced off, the dog is ok, but "M13" went over the handlebars and wound up falling 35 feet to a lower roadway!
Upshot is, he broke BOTH of his upper legs and he left hand was badly mangled and they put pins in the legs and hand and it looks like they will have to amputate two of the fingers.
Meanwhile he is not going to be able to do much for at least 3 months.
As he says:

My son JD just lost his entire financial security. I just lost my life savings and all my plans for the future.

I'm doing better now. My wife is being incredibly helpful and supportive. But I don't know how long she can keep it up...

Taiwan medical covers the majority of it, but I'm still looking at large sums of money over the next few months. Plus thousands in lost income and I was barely breaking even to begin the with.

It will be 4-6 months before I can walk again, my beautiful baby boy has lost his daddy. Update: 6-9 months... right leg is worse than they thought.

This is really bad for him, if anyone is inclined to help him out great, if not that's cool too, but let this incident be a good teaching experience for everyone in here on how fast something like this can happen to any one of us! Think about his situation now and how that could be any one of us laying there doing that video with two broken legs, a hand that is going to lose two fingers, and being out of work for MONTHS with no paycheck!

That is the kind of scenario for those who have or had no medical/health insurance, you have an accident like this and it's tough luck, there's no other driver to sue either.

Yeah same here! I always enjoyed his videos, he has 150,000 subscribers too.
Just a working stiff like the rest of us trying to make ends meet and support his family, but I just knew from watching his videos and how drivers and riders too in Taiwan drive like nuts- fast, passing on both sides, weaving in and out of traffic, crossing the yellow line and so on, that one of these days M13 was going to have a serious accident, it seemed inevitable given the amount of time he rides plus you have to figure there is some degree of distraction making these videos while riding.

I never thought he would have this kind of accident leading a tour group, it seemed far more likely he would be riding fast down a narrow road and some one in a parked car would suddenly pull out or open their door and WHAMMO! or that someone would T bone him at an intersection.
I think the worst part of this accident was his fall to the lower roadway, likely only his helmet and his fairly padded clothes were what saved him.

So it's his own fault.....What if he say crossed over into the sidewalk and ran over a kid while he wasn't looking....Would we still be saying oh poor guy....Your driving a potentially deadly weapon...I'm just glad he only hurt himself

I get what you're saying, but I can't tell you I haven't looked behind me many times. I do it regularly to see if I'm free to get in a lane or look down to see what's making a noise on the scooter. I do all sorts of stupid stuff, but certainly don't want to lose any appendages or suffer great amounts for it. I think for me even though I don't know him personally I did watch his vids regularly for roundabout 5 years. Strikes a nerve to see him busted up and I donated a few bucks because I can imagine being in such a situation and needing help... not to mention the many hours of entertainment are worth something especially in a time of need. One of us could get messed up from doing something on a scooter we prob shouldn't be doing, but it would be nice to think someone in the world cared enough to want to help you through it. Especially with someone like Mordeth that has 150,000 subscribers each person wouldn't have to give much at all to make a huge difference. I'm not at all saying anyone else should donate, or worry about him, but that's my perspective.

I just remember the days when if you had a family, you would act a little more responsibly. Knowing you had people relying on you. It just seems people today try to have their cake and eat it too. I do feel for the guy, but you play with fire you get burned

Thats too bad. Sounds like a pretty cool job. Hopefully he can get back on his feet someday...
Sucks he has a give up attitude about it but i cant imagine being in his position so i dunno?
He acts as if he is dead.

I watched a few of his vids to see what Taiwan looks like from his POV but thats all.

  I've come across his vids from time to time. I found it ?ironic? that in his 'Counter steering/driving in high wind' video that he calls someone a loser for crashing...  Hope his dog turned out OK.
