Recently lewd, raw, inappropriate, awkward, and unfriendly posts have become entirely too common on the forum as well as threads getting way off topic. Anything from pics of topless women to conversations or comments about sex acts, jokes that end in someones feelings getting hurt, people posting nothing but a smiley over and over again and so on.
It's none of my business what anyone talks about or looks at off of the forum, but we need to remember that this forum is intended to be a friendly and family-friendly place to learn about, help with, or otherwise enjoy scooters and scooter related things. I have no problem with getting off topic a little, and I'm guilty of it myself. If the topic is a fun one like scooter pics and videos or a general discussion, most likely no harm is done. When someone needs help with a technical issue and we end up going on for pages about something totally unrelated, then it gets to a point that the thread is hard to read and the person can't get help because those of us here to help don't feel like sorting through the random conversation to figure out where the actual details of the issue are. Some problems are hard enough to solve with a keyboard and monitor when they are available to read in a concise fashion, let alone spread among off the wall remarks and pictures.
There are also lots of jokes directed at each other by a few members. Myself, and I'm sure others, have a hard time seeing some of this and telling how much is serious, or who's really offended, and how much is all in good fun at times. Just keep that in mind please.
I've noticed that many of our female members have not posted since all of this has been going on. This has never been intended to be a male only forum and I would like to think that females could be comfortable here as well. When posting, perhaps consider doing so in a manner that you would not worry about your mother or grandmother or daughter to hear or see. If your granny curses like a sailor and makes fun of everyone around her then maybe she's a bad example, but I think you get the idea.
By no means am I saying it has to be a stuffy business and technical only sort of attitude, but I need it to stay appropriate and friendly and I would like to see technical topics remain comprehensible so people can get help when they need it. I am by no stretch of the imagination an authoritarian and I hated to even have to post about this, but it does need to calm down. I tried to avoid posting about it for a while in hopes that things would settle down on their own, but that's not happening. Some of it has improved greatly by speaking with just a couple of members, and I appreciate the cooperation, but I don't want anyone to think that what has been happening is acceptable behavior. I think most of us are capable of understanding what is and isn't appropriate in various situations, so please think about this when posting/replying.
Thank you for your time reading this.
