Election day is tomorrow, and I know I'll be glad when it's over. I have no desire to discuss political views here, and I understand that elections are an essential part of our government... but WOW!!! I think this year is a record year for election campaign annoyances and dirty tactics. Phone calls, junk mail, and television commercials for politicians are off the charts. I'm sure it isn't just in my neck of the woods.
For the last few weeks, I am guaranteed these calls (I don't know exact names of some, because frankly they just annoy me so I pay no attention and stop answering. I do remember the numbers though, since I see them so much on my Caller ID.) :
MD League of Concerned Voters : 3-5 times per day
Republican something or other : 2-3 times per day
Democratic Party bla bla bla : 1-2 times per day
Those are the worst offenders. I get maybe 10-15 calls per week from specific candidates as well. I also get between 2-5 messages on my answering machine from recordings every day. I never use my cell phone. I hate the damn things to be honest, and mostly only use mine for emergencies (ex. come get me the scoot died). My phone is ringing right now as I type BTW. But yeah, when I turn my cell on I end up with voicemails from candidates. I don't give my cell out for any purpose. It's prepaid (makes more sense how I use it) and it costs money to talk other than if certain conditions are met. So all-in-all that's somewhere roughly around 50-80 calls per week plus whatever voicemails I get on the cell!
Are they done there? Nope. Add in 1-4 pamphlets in the mailbox every day. Then the TV ads we are forced to sit through. Worse yet, it seems like the folks around here all sling mud rather than inform. If you were to vote solely from the media, you'd be voting based off of what everyone says everyone else did that is wrong. Meanwhile, you'd have little idea what any candidate actually stands for.
I'd vote for the candidate that doesn't spam me with all of the stuff above, just because I'd like someone to be in office that had better things to do than annoy me... but there isn't one. Congratulations, you just spent more money pissing of voters than half of your voters make. The higher the office, the worse it gets.
I know I can't be the only one that get's tired of going to check/answer the phone when you are in the middle of something, only to see it's a politician.
I'm gonna quit spamming you with this rant now. lol
