I wouldn't call that a dumb mistake. Props for thinking of the difference in length on a WC cylinder. I stuck together a little collage of some AC vs WC cylinders for ya. Maybe it'll help you make a better guess. I'm not so sure it's as much as 20-30mm judging from these pics. 10-20mm?

Thanks for the pics. Yes, it doesn't look like a great deal of difference. Your guess of 10-20mm is probably close. I'm sure missing my acceleration. That's where the fun really is.
I going to study this for a while before I do anything.

Ok. Took the pipe back off because I knew I had a leak down there. I suspected it was at the spud/headpipe junction but it was mostly a warped exhaust flange on that end of the spud. I beat and filed it flat and stoned the cylinder flange flat and clean. Cleaned the gasket with lacquer thinner and assembled it back with hi-temp RTV silicone sealant. Also I safety wired the flange retaining bolts. Now just need to fit the pipe back to the spud with RTV after I clean both ends and let it set up a bit.
I was reading that an exhaust leak at the flange can cause lean out because fresh air is drawn in on the suction pulse from the pipe then it it forced back into the cylinder by the reflected positive pulse. Maybe what caused my soft seize.

Sounds reasonable. Maybe you'll have better results now, although doubtful. An exhaust leak would be more likely to aid low end if anything.

I let the scoot set for a couple of hours after putting the pipe back on and sealing the fit and then went on a ride. The bottom end, which for me starts around 6k, was slightly better. After the soft seize I had swapped the original w1 (richer) needle back in in the next to the richest position. It runs strong on the top easily maintaining 60 mph into close to a 10 mph headwind sitting up. I've still got a lot more fiddling to do to make this pipe and me a happy couple.

Sounds like a beast. 60MPH in a 10MPH headwind is ridiculous. That thing is cranking out some power up top.

Dang! Thats more better! What kinda rrrr,s? Or is your tach still fussy? Mine is a piece of tach too. 60 sittin up in the wind? Thats great power

Yesterday I had my new (to me) pipe off thinking about modding it. I had been thinking that the smaller diameter head pipe on the old setup as well as it's longer length were responsible for the better torque at lower rpms. However, to adapt the old head pipe to the new chamber would have required terminating both pipes at about 1/2 inch into the start of each one's diffuser cones. This would have added about 2 3/4 " to the length of the new pipe. I thought about it a while and then decided to just put my old pipe back on after welding up a couple of cracks on both ends of the stinger. I may still do the mod but at least I know my take off is good with the old pipe for now.

I can't picture you letting that pipe sit there and never making it work. Either way though, you've got one beefy scoot.

Still a great deal for the pipe, glad you have your backup tech pipe still. You will get it ironed out sooner or later. Better yet, maybe that $100 GP1 it around the corner.
