Hey guys I figured I'd start a build or should I say a rebuild thread on my Jog. A little background info on the jog, my brother bought it about 5 years ago or so and could never get it to run right so he put it in my dads shed and it sat there until last week when my dad was cleaning out the shed and said it needed to go. Well my brother gave me a call and asked if I wanted it and said he'd just sign the title over if I did. So I'm now the proud new owner of a 90 Yamaha Jog with about 3,800 miles on the clock.
I got it home and started looking at it to figure out what was going on with it. Turns out it has a Polini big bore kit, Polini intake with a Dellorto 21mm carb and a K&N high flow air filter.
My brother said it would start fine and run ok just when he tried to give it any gas it would bog out and die on him.
I did the usual, pulled the carb and cleaned it in my ultrasonic cleaner for about an hour or so, checked for spark, compression and went to clean the gas tank but it almost looked brand new. I noticed the main jet was a 72 and the pilot was a 50. I put the carb back together and the bowl gasket was tore up. So I ordered some new jets to re jet it as well as some other parts that the scoot needed.
While I'm waiting for those parts to come in I think I'll take all of the stickers that are on it off and maybe repaint it.

Sounds like a really small main jet. I'd start around 100 and work down.

I agree. Could even end up larger than 100 main with an open filter, but that should be much closer than a 72 main for that setup I'd think. Most of my 21mm Dells with stock air boxes (snorkel removed) are running 90-100 main jets.

At first I was a bit confused as was thinking how lucky you are to have a 90cc jog! Now I realize you are referring to the year, because I got really confused when u said it had a polini kit! When I got my 1992 jog it also had a polini kit with a 24mm carb and a 90 main jet also had polini intake. I assume these kits where the shit back in the day. I donated it to a guy here on the forums. It ran really good! Do you have a stock pipe? Mine did although I never ran it people ran them this way. They make a lot of bottom and mid range power. Can you post some pics? Where are you from? You can use tinypic to host your pictures for free.

Sorry for the confusion. I guess these kits were big back in the day. Idk when it was built as my brother bought it that way about 5 years ago. Yeah it's still has the stock exhaust on it. I just want to get it running.
I did order a jet kit so I'm just waiting for it to come in. I honestly haven't taken any pics of it yet but I will get some up soon. And I'm from the Orlando, FL area but from what I was told is the scooter came from the Coccoa Beach area.

birdman is all about his 1990 Jog. With a BBK a good flowing pipe is a must. Especially your old stocker wich im sure is plugged solid with oil and carbon. Upjet, pipe, and a little cvt tuning, welcome to the quick 50s

There is a polini kit that runs fine with the stock pipe. Cant recall which one it is but they sold them to be used with stock crank and exhaust.not to say u couldn't get more with a pipe but then u have crank/ longevity issues. It will pull good with the current set up if tuned properly. Definitely ditch the stock metal reeds uf they are still in there. Accident waiting to happen.

Sweet! Gotta love those Jogs!
I'm currently working on a 2000 Prebug Zuma with the vertical Minarelli. I'm assuming your Jog engine is the exact same. I've found it difficult to work on compared to the Horizontal Minas- convenience-wise. There's barely enough room to get a socket in to get the spark plug out and I can't even get the cooling shroud off without pulling the entire engine out of the bike!

Welcome. I'm in Stuart. Good to have another flip flop wrencher. That taillight is huge. Good looking scoot!

So I got out in the garage a little today and worked on the scoot, or should I say the plastics. I picked up the pieces I was missing from my parents house and then continued to remove all the stickers that were on them. I also sprayed the cover that gives access, or is supposed to give access, to the spark plug a metallic blue. I still need to wet sand it but think it looks good and am gonna spray all the red blue and the grey, floor board and side panel things, black. Here is a pic of the access cover. Sorry for the crappy pic.

The CVT cover looks totally different than the 2000 and 2001 vertical Zumas- weird. I would have expected the engines to be identical. Mind if I ask what Main Jet you're running with that cone filter? Just curious to see how far off I might be with 100 and same style filter...

I wish. they are different, they use the same cylinder, intake, and pipe, but our Jogs use a crank with a 10mm wrist pin and uses a Jog90 21mm variator. The Gears are different, nothing out there for our Jogs but tons of stuff for that pre bug vert. CVT cover is also different amongst other minor things.
