I got a new toy. A GoPro Hero HD camera. You can check it out at www.goprohero.com if it interests you, but be advised you can pick these up way cheaper on eBay. It's a really cool setup that (in the motorsports bundle) comes with mounts that can be used about anywhere. I initially tried the suction cup mount. It stuck very well to the front fairing of the Venus, but with all that attachments and extensions I used any bumps and vibrations were magnified. For the vid posted below, I used a helmet mount. I think I had it aimed a bit low, but it works.
The 1080p video from this thing is amazing for an amateur camera that can be had with mounts for about $200 if you shop around. I was seriously impressed with all the detail I couls see in everything when I watched the unedited video. Now the bad news. It records in MP4 format, which isn't compatible with Windows Movie Maker, so I had to convert it. By the time it was converted, some of the quality was lost. Then it got worse. I dropped it to 720p to hopefully help it look a little better again. For whatever reason, Movie Maker outputs the video with black around the edges instead of the full video. Look around for other people's vids with this cam, because my editing stuff kills the true quality this thing can do. On top of that, make sure you have a beefy PC if you plan to edit your videos. When reading reviews I saw the same comments, they are very true. 15,000kbps video really does put a heck of a load on the average PC.
So again, sorry for the lack of quality, but don't blame the cam. Also, the sound is no good when it's in the wind for this scoot. I used the housing to reduce wind noise, but it's too quiet for the pipe on the Venus so there really was no sound. Just a little wind noise and a faint sound of the Venus here or there. With the other housing it was pretty much all wind noise. Of course with all the copyright laws, I can't put songs I want over it either. So there are all my excuses, and here is my first video with my new cam, just criuising around on my first real ride with the Venus and it's new setup.
