A friend and I both have 08 Zuma's with everything identical (except cvt components) and our Mj's are like 4 sizes different. I've always attributed it to the differences in mileage in the case of our scoots, whether that's the reason or not, I'm not sure, but he has about 40 thousand more miles on his than I do mine. He has the bigger main jet btw.

Tsimi, do you have a CHT gauge? I've found that I can't live without one for tuning nowadays. I tend to shoot for a temp between 350-370 after a long WOT run (miles WOT). Anything less and could be a bit rich and leaving power on the table- over that and it's a bit lean and borderline dangerous. Just a thought for ya!

Any drastic tempter changes in the weather in the last week? Hot to cold, cold to hot? Cold Front bringing moisture in? Whether change could be affecting it. It's trying to start spring in my neck of the woods so I'm probably gonna have to change down my jet soon.

niz76Yep, CHT temp gauge is installed. Nothing unusual there. Clank Yeah, weather could be a factor. We got a few ups and downs recently. One day we have 50F the next day 70+. Humidity + Japan = normal. Today it is raining the whole day and probably tomorrow too so no driving and tuning during that time possible.

Man oh man, if stupidity could have a new name you could call it "tsimi". I thought my Scooter is showing signs of lean but it was the opposite. It was drowning in fuel! I went from 38/90 to 38/94 and 38/98 and it got worse and worse until I couldn't even drive at WOT anymore. I then went the other way to 38/88 and she drives great. I think I could even go down to a 86 or even 84 but I don't have such small Jets, 88 was the smallest I had for the Dello carb. I will probably drill holes and put those tiny uni covers to get more air going through and therefore be able to use the larger Jets that I have. Similar to what paceneedsstides did. Man I should really know my Scooter better. Such a stupid mistake.

Installed the pipe today. ( 49ccscoot.proboards.com/post/224965/thread ) I now fully understand what Lucass2T meant with all the power band and rpm stuff. At first I just installed the pipe without changing the CVT and of course it was not perfectly running. The pipes power starts to kick in once I get past the 8000rpm mark and once I went past 9000rpm the scooter was flying! I never had such feeling thus far with all my tuning. Very, very, very fast acceleration and strong power once I hit 9000rpm. I think I went past 10000rpm, not sure how much exactly since my tacho only goes until 10000rpms. My top speed went up by 9km/h with the stock CVT setup. From 61km/h to 70km/h. Imagine if I install the BMF variator or Polini which I used to hit 78km/h I should get somewhere around 85+km/h. I need to find now a way to keep the rpms around 9000-9800 to get the best performance with that pipe. Tomorrow I will install the Polini variator and stiffer clutch springs and see if I can figure it out. I also will take a video with sound so that you guys can see and hear the pipe. I definitely need to get a Yasuni R or anything better then my V8 pipe. Conclusion, my max rpm issue that I had was due to bad CVT tuning and my V8 pipe. I just couldn't get past 9200 now I can hit 10000+ in a heart beat.

Now you've experienced that you'll have to start off with heavy rollers and first determine the powerbands starting point, peak and end. Only then you can go swap around some different (lighter) roller weights. I think that V8 pipe was your biggest bottleneck since it didn't have an expansion chamber. And the difference between no expansion chamber and a 'good' expansion chamber can be as much as 50%! So yeah, happy to hear things are still going in the right direction!

^^^^^ Excellent words from Lucass2T! Great to hear you are making good progress tmisi. CVT tuning can be so hard sometimes, at least for me it is. Especially when you are trying to converge a new motor build tune with a new CVT tune at the same time. As an example, I had a pretty good tune going on my scoot with the MHR rep pipe, and decided to change the weight of my sliders by just 3 grams total, and the pipe would not even begin to hit. Some pipes can have pretty narrow power bands.

Yeah, thus far Lucass2T was right all the way. I think I had finally a good CVT setup for the V8 pipe or at least as good as I could tune it. But this new pipe is interesting. Too bad that this is just temporary and that I have to give the pipe back sooner or later. But all what I learn now with this one will help me in the future to tune other pipes with similar range. Looking forward to tomorrows trial & error day.

Busy day today. I tried to find a good CVT setup for that pipe but I kinda failed. It is harder then I thought. Just putting lighter rollers does not work. I also somehow lost interest since the pipe is not mine I didn't feel 100% motivated to find the perfect setup. It was a good learning process though. Once I get my pipe in the future I will do better. I just know that the after market torque driver with straight grooves takes out a lot momentum and rpms. The stock torque driver did a better job getting those rpms up. Top speed I reached was 79km/h at 9400rpm. After market variator with 6x3.5g rollers and the straight groove torque driver. I had stiffer clutch springs inside but I just don't like to drive around like that, always revving up to reach the clutch engage point. Maybe good for races but for daily traffic uncomfortable.
