My torque wrench was in need of calibration and I used Team Torque ( www.teamtorque.com/ ) so I thought I'd post a review for anyone else considering their services.
I had a Snap-On torque wrench that I knew was out of spec. Snap-On told me I'd have to ship it to them, even though their truck goes by 2X a day and the driver has said he'd stop a few times and never actually has. I did a little searching and found Team Torque. First an eBay ad of theirs came up and then I found their site. They had a listing of prices for services online ( www.teamtorque.com/documents/torquepricing.pdf ) and what I expected to pay from that ($90) was not far off from what I recall paying years ago to Snap-On. I don't send the torque wrenches in often since I don't use them as regularly as a career mechanic so I didn't have a current Snap-On price to compare with. After finding a few good reviews of Team Torque, I decided to try their service.
Below is a listing of dates and events so you can get an unbiased look at how the process went for me :
1/7/2015 : I printed a form from Team Torque's site and filled it out. They allow the customer to specify a do not exceed price and if the cost will go over that they will call or email the customer. I set the price at $100 and asked them to email me. I packed the torque wrench in my own packaging and printed shipping label using the UPS website. UPS Ground service was $12.60 from me in MD to them in ND.
1/8/2015 : The package was dropped off at UPS to head to Team Torque.
1/13/2015 : The package was received by Team Torque at 10:30AM according to UPS tracking.
1/16/2015 : I received this message from Team Torque via email :
"We received your torque wrench this week and the technicians have checked it out. The tool is out of tolerance and needs adjustments, but the total cost will only run $90 (your do not exceed price was $100). We will finish this up and get it sent your way by Monday. Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns."
1/20/2015 : I received an email from Team Torque with a UPS tracking number for return delivery.
1/26/2015 : I received the torque wrench and paperwork.
The torque wrench was packed with bubble wrap and paper so it didn't get damaged. They included a receipt showing the $90 charge that I was made aware of in an email. I was expecting to see a shipping charge as well, but there appears to be no additional charge for shipping. They included a paper with specs on the torque wrench before and after calibration as well as information about the tools used to calibrate the torque wrench. They also put stickers on the torque wrench noting when it was calibrated and recommending a future calibration date (6 months from this calibration).
I was pleased with their service. It did take a bit longer than what I recall when the tool was given to a Snap-On representative on a truck. I'd use them again though. They may offer quicker services and shipping and of course you could ship the item to them as quickly as you'd like.
