Hi there, Started about a year ago when we bought two Chinese 50cc scoots that were not working and built a single working unit for my 15 year old son (in GA he can ride with a learner's permit at 15). It is ok but the quality is really cheap. I had Japanese motocross bikes growing up and the quality of the plastic, engineering, etc. The Chinese units are cheap but you get what you pay for. So, about two weeks ago I ran across a 1996 Yamaha Jog 50 with only 830 miles for $300. So I drove the 250 round trip miles and brought it home. Overall for it's age it's in pretty good shape - the plastic is not faded and almost all there. It was dirty and had a flat rear and needed some minor parts but I took it home after making sure it cranked. At home I took it down, cleaned it, replaced the tire, repainted the exhaust, etc. The starter was just spinning and not engaging so I decided to take it apart and check it out. The starter clutch was gummed up and the starter gear was in backwards. Got all that cleaned, fixed and now it works fine. However, the bigger issue when I got in there was the secondary clutch and the belt. There was a TON of rubber 'dust' everywhere in the case when I opened it and the belt was worn down to about 1/2" in width. The rear sheaves were also incredibly rusted and pitted. I am surprised that a bike with so few miles would have such degraded parts but there was some signs of water in other areas inside the case (calcification on the aluminum itself). I've ordered the new belt and sleeve and hope to get this thing working soon. I'm looking forward to upgrading to 70cc in the next 6 months. Thanks guys!

New sheaves, a clutch, and belt are def in order. Be sure to check that gear oil too! Thanks, I will replace the gear oil as well - the fuel lines and filter have been replaced as well as the spark plug and the air filter and battery. It seems to crank, rev and idle just fine but hard to tell without being able to drive it at speed. Clutch will be here with a new belt on Saturday so keeping fingers crossed. Thanks for the help.
