I bought a very nice LC 2004 Super 9 yesterday. Only one thing the guy did'nt tell me about before I bought it. If I run it at 8000 RPMs it's fine but if I run at 9000 or above for more than around 5 seconds, the temp light comes on. Let me first say that this thing has been upped to 73cc with a Tecnigas RS pipe, Arreche carb, the whole 9 yards and it will flat out fly. I know this sounds like Bullshit but before I knew about keeping the RPMs down I opened it up and It shot over 50 mph in around 4 seconds and I was close to 65 when the temp light came on and was still accelerating. I know that sounds crazy but I don't make sh*t up. I really don't know how fast it will go because I have to keep it at half throttle to keep it below 9000 RPMs. It won't overheat as long as I keep it below 8000 but that sucks because I'm used to running at full throttle when I want to. I almost think I need a rev limiter or something, Any Ideas?

My first thought is to make sure that sucker is getting plenty of fuel. Evaporating fuel cools the cylinder. My second thought is that if our Chinese scoots had temperature lights, they'd be on all the time. I'm not saying it's a good idea to ignore it, I just wonder if it may be normal. The 73cc is probably getting hotter than the stock bore ever did.
Now, I'm not saying you are making it up... but if that scooter does 0-50MPH in 4 seconds you have a real monster. So 0-60 is what? 5 seconds-6 seconds? If that's true, you should be able to beat or be even with most of the cars that pull up next to you at lights. I'm talking about Mustangs, Camaros, Harleys, big cc scooters, etc... That's a quick time. You might wanna verify that you are looking at MPH and not KPH. If it really goes that fast, it should heat up because it's not meant for street use. It's probably a drag scooter. With that much power, you should be doing wheelies without trying. Once again, I'm not saying you're full of it but those times are wild for a scooter.
Sounds like a nice scoot regardless. Got any pics? If it's that fast, I'd love to see you racing some cars and/or get that sucker to the track and get us some video. ;D

How much do you weigh? To turn times like that you'd probably need 25-30hp and to get that kind of power the a 73cc engine has to spin to 14,000 rpm. Sorry, but these are just facts. I suggest you ask the previous owner about the overheating problem. There could be several causes of your overheating: inadequate coolant flow, trapped air in the system, lean fuel mixture, excessive compression ratio, excessive ignition advance, inadequate exhaust flow.... to name the most likely.
You're temp light is probably working right but to be sure you need to get some reliable numbers on the actual temperature down there. Too hot is generally something above about 80 deg. C.

Let me first say, I'm not trying to brag I don't even like having this much power on something this small, I can't ride it normally. I have read where Super 9s have been known to be off as much as 7 mph but I'm definatly looking at the MPH not KPH. I've owned 16 or 17 scooters in my life and I'd probably be the first one to call BS on me but hear me out. I have to ease the throttle on because it will pop up with me if I twist the throttle all the way back. The factory gauge only reads to 10,000 RPMs and the needle is going way past that so I don't know the RPMs but it's definatly well over 10,000 if the gauge is correct.. I am going to try a find the original owner to see if he can tell me what's been done to it. I personelly have never been able to get one of my scoots to go much over 50 mph downhill so I'd like to know what's been done. I know damn well if I would have put this on Scoot Dawg I would be eaten alive. The only reason I mentioned what it would do is because I thought it may have something to do with the light coming on. I called the guy that had it before me and all he can tell me is that if I keep it below 9000 rpms that it won't overheat with me. I tested that theory and he's right. The light won't come on as long as you keep it below 9,000. As far as what kind of performance this thing has, I won't say anything else until I can verify it GPS.

Can I ask what you paid for this thing?

If it runs like that, it's still a good deal. Please get some video if you can... not because I don't believe you, just because it's cool. I still think 4 seconds to 50 is off, but it sounds fast anyway.

I still think 4 seconds to 50 is off, but it sounds fast anyway. It's more like 6 seconds and like I said these Super 9 mph gauges have been known to be up to 7 mph off. My excitement got the best of me yesterday. I really need someone to time it to be able to say for sure. One thing I don't like is that their's a bit of a vibration until you get up to speed then it smooths out. It does'nt smoke or leak though. I went ahead and ordered a new belt.

Yes, that's the exact same pipe mine has on it. I had to drive a long way to get it but not quite that far. # # Extra Ventilation for the radiator # #

Yes. Beautiful scoot. Looks like it may have a better kit than that one in MT if that Malossi sticker is referring to your cylinder kit. I'm probably wrong but that pipe looks more like a NextR Technigas than an RS (it looks skinny like my NextR, the RS is fatter) but that is good as the NextR is a top end pipe while the RS is more a mid range pipe. But they are making a new RS which that might be. I wish my Derbi had a flat seat like that.
I've just got to dig the Minarelli guys a bit.... at least it has the carburetor in the right place and not turned around backwards. Tee-Hee. ;D

It looks deceiving in the picture. It's definately an RS. I've owned a NextR before and this pipe is actually fatter but the angle of the pic does make it look slimmer than it is. I noticed you said you have a Derbi. I really like their scoots. That GP1 50cc model is one of the best looking scooters I've ever seen.
