To start, I'll remind you; I got *MY* scoots (1st-round chinese 49cc D1E41QMB 2T's) for free, from a crate... While looking to strip one down and fix it over the winter, I came across the exhaust. Now the exhaust on the scoot now is covered in rust and needs replaced. But the question I have is... On a 2T scooter, that DOESN'T HAVE AN EXPANSION CHAMBER, what are the things you need to consider when making a new exhaust for it? I know that 2T's need back pressure to function; so I'm not sure what route I should take. I already have a new muffler but for the exhaust pipe do I... make it flow better? (matching diameter exhaust, minimal bends, etc) or do I just match the stock stuff as best I can; because the minimal back pressure it has is required.

I'd make it flow better. At least then you should pick up torque. I've tried no exhaust on scooters and midbikes with 2Ts and they always gained low end grunt, so I'd imagine it would work the same way with a less restrictive pipe. Be careful on muffler choice because 2Ts are louder.

If you are going to make an exhaust for it I'd be going for an expansion chamber, although it'd be quite a challenge for a novice. A good winter project

It would be something special for sure. You definitely don't see performance modded D1E41QMBs around. Not sure it's really worth all of that trouble though. May actually be a bad thing since he cant tune the trans to the revs he wants. Not sure.

I'm guessing you could juggle the clutch springs for a later engagement (higher RPM), change the CDI (if it is RPM limited), dig around @ Treats for a generic chamber (or look for a deal on the Technogas pocket bike chamber), and juggle tire sizes (on the rear) to give a final drive ratio you like. I do see a big bore kit available ( www.partsforscooters.com/169-185_TB60__Big__Bore__Kit?sc=9&category=81136 ) Might work out for a light weight rider............ Moped guys have been "doing it" without a transmission like forever!

Unfortunately the D1E41QMB engines have a wet clutch that is chain driven. I'm not sure that you can tune it like a regular GY6 clutch. I have ridden one one time and it was gutless. I had to push it to get up a hill. Maybe a big bore kit and a better pipe/carb would help but I'm not sure they even make a bbk for those. They have a 60cc kit at this site but I wouldn't call that "Big"

Yes........same as the Yamaha Razz (Riva Razz).
Not "preferable", but one has to work with what one has?
Looks like a Zuma vertical would fit?

Not sure about the Zuma vertical engine fitting. Before considering any engine swap, look at the costs and time involved in the swap (not to mention if you are up to the fabrication and re-wiring that could be required), and compare that to what you could pick up a scooter with a better performance platform for.
That big bore isn't much of a big bore. The stock bore should be 41mm (as indicated by the engine number). The stock stroke is 37.4mm. That would make 49.4cc. The big bore kit is 43mm, which would make 54.3cc. It would help a little, but porting the stocker could do as much or more I would imagine. It would be worth going to the larger one if it needs a rebuild at that price. I read somewhere else that someone had a 43mm bore stock, so I'd check that before spending anything.
