Hey im new to this forum but ive done a lot of reading and got a few questions. First im going to start with what i have. I have two bikes, one a 2013 Tao Tao atm50 frame and the other is my daily rider my lance gtr50. The moter in the lance poped a piston and ruined a head a while back and i got the lance for free from a guy in town and it did not run, turns out it was a dead battery and clogged carb. Anyway the body and frame was mostly intact. The Tao Tao i bought from a guy, and since then ive been run off the road several times and the bodywork was pretty tattered. So i pulled the engine and put it in the lance and stripped the Tao Tao down to a frame. I have a good engine case and the 50cc piston and cylinder from when i did a bbk. My plan for both bikes is to restore the lance to a good daily driver that can keep up if not pass traffic but look good in the process. The Tao Tao frame is going to be an all out speed demon. Thats what im up to and any advice yall can give would be awesome. Thanks

For the daily driver consider sticking with a 47mm or smaller bore for best engine life. It'll probably last the longest as a 49cc, but as long as the bottom end is in good shape it should be alright up to 72cc. For a "speed demon" you'll probably want a 50mm+ bore and a big valve head. You can even get a 44mm stroker crank if you'd like to increase displacement even more. The 50mm+ bores are hard on stock cranks, but if your primary concern is max power they're prob the way to go. You may also want to use a larger carb and intake with the largest bores or stroker builds. To get the most speed you may need to change the final drive gears.

Ive always wondered about that 50mm big valve stroker outfit and thats the way i want to go but my worry is valve and piston clearance. Any place i can find engine shims would be nice. Im used to classic vdubs and are set up somewhat the same, hell the air cooled vw engine is just an overglorfied motercycle engine and ive built three. Also i would like to know how to properly install an oil cooler to both scoots cause i live in a warm climate and oil is one of the things that cools an air cooled engine. Any advice there would be nice

Also im very picky about gauges and want tp know how to install: an oil pressure and oil temp gage, a voltage gauge, a cht gauge, a tachometer and a good speedo and a a/f ratio gauge and prefer to stick to analog gauges

Are there any bikes with compatible bodywork to the 2013 Tao Tao ATM50. I need an entire kit and i need a back half of a 2008 lance gtr50 any tips would be nice im trying to restore/modify both bike along with my other projects. Any framework mod tips would also be appreciated. This is my first frame-off restoration on a scooter.

There are tons of scoots like the ATM50. They are often called "sunny" style scoots and there are 2 common variations. Look at Scrappy's page for more info : www.scrappydogscooters.com/Sunny_style_parts.htmlOne of the biggest things to go over with the frame is check welds and check for rust. Mine are all digital, but install should be about the same. You can find some info on gauges below : 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/6365/project-taotao-stroke-experiences-upgrades?page=149ccscoot.proboards.com/board/30/instrument-techYou can check the piston to valve clearance and you may be able to cut the valve reliefs if quench/squish clearance is good and compression is acceptable. I did this with a stock stroke engine, later found out I had a cam timing problem due to a poorly machined flywheel. I just used a stone disc for a Dremel. I'm not aware of anyone making cylinder shims. You may be able to find a head gasket that is a little thicker. Some use 2 base gaskets. You could also cut a base shim/spacer from a sheet of aluminum if you demand some specific thickness that you can't find another solution for. Us two-stroke folks do that somewhat frequently to get our cylinders where we want them. 49ccscoot.proboards.com/thread/2250/base-gasket-spacer-fabrication

Thats all good info, appreciate that. My Tao i think falls under the type 2 sunny style were as my lance falls into the sunny type 1 so it should be easy to find. Also how reliable is scrappydogscooters and how good are there parts. Also do u know how to install an oil cooler

I did not see anything on how to install the oil cooler but scrappydogscooters sales a oil cooler kit that is compatible with 139qmb engines and a all new kit with all the required fittings to make it work for around $80 is not a bad deal. And thanks for the reviews, i will be buying from them really soon. Also ill keep yall posted on my builds

Had to take the battery to AutoZone and is there any problem in going to a 105cca battery from a 50 cca battery. Just worried that it might burn something up

As long as it's 12V and fits it should be an improvement.

Cool cause my little battery dont have a nuff juice to turn my 80 kit. Fires off after a couple of kicks on the kick starter so i guess its not turning the engine fast enough wadda say
