I have been trying to help a guy on another forum with a 153QMI-3 GY6 4T. He posted some pics of the flywheel today and the funny thing is that there is no visible pickup coil and the alignment mark is a V notch instead of the usual protruding piece of metal cast into the case. It must all be inside the flywheel I guess. I worked on a 157QMJ-3 before but I never removed the fan cover. I guess it must have been the same as this one. I don't use the timing marks to adjust valves. I just rotate the engine and when the intake valve opens and closes and the cam holes line up right afterward then you know you are there. Anyway, I thought you all might find it interesting. I have no clue why this guy's scooter won't start. Full story here: www.scooterforumonline.com/index.php/topic,2730.0.html

Well, now he's saying there's a black magnet on there somewhere. I wanna see it.

Thanks for sharing. Never seen one like that. Would be more interesting/informative if he could remove the flywheel or at least get pics of the magnet he speaks of.

After looking at the last pic I see what looks to be a black module of some kind.

Okay so it turns out the "Black magnet" is a pickup coil after all. It's just placed in a different spot. Mystery solved! Just when you think you got everything figured out the Chinese go and invent a new engine.
