Had to get out to test my new handguards, and I kinda just wanted to ride in a little snow, so I took a vid. Temp was about 33-34 degrees. The main roads are fine other than some sandy or wet spots. Back roads around me are slushy and snow covered in spots. I went out in the truck in the AM and the roads were solid ice in many areas. Didn't expect it to clear up so soon, but it's prob for the best that they did. Might have been a more entertaining vid, but I don't really enjoy crashes. lol www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6l3Jgv-yY4

So how do the new hand guards work? Quoted from the cold riding thread HERE... I took a 20 mile ride today with temps just slightly higher than my last trip out to test the hand guards ( VID HERE). It was just barely above freezing, I think 33-34F was the high today. The handguards helped just a little, but good gloves are going to be a necessity. I may need to lower the guards a bit to make sure they block the air under the grips where my fingers rest. Not a bad idea, any wind you can block has gotta help, but not a major improvement. Dude! That thing hauls! Thanks. It would be a little faster if the tires were aired up. I dropped the pressures to help a little in poor conditions. Topped out at about 55MPH with low tire pressure sitting up. ;D

The snow is new to me, I just wanted to try it out. I've played around in the yard in snow on small bikes and scoots a bit, but never really rode in it. I'm sure there are some folks lauging at what I call playing in the snow, but ya gotta start somewhere. lol

I think I mentioned it before, but I used to do that too. A friend and I raced a 98 Chevy CK1500 (his) and an 87 Mercury Grand Marquis (mine) down back roads covered in snow and ice years ago. We both ended up in ditches and he even managed to slide through one ditch into a field. Better him than me, I woulda been stuck. lol Used to play with the emergency brake in the snow a lot too. Let me just say the old real steel bumpers saved me from any real damage a few times. lol

A few inches of virgin snow, especially on gravel roads, has a lot more traction than most people would think. M&S tires all around are a big help though. Oh I miss playing in my 510(s).

It's pretty amazing what studded tires can do, huh? I always thought it was crazy that they do it on sportbikes...
A good look at the tires...
These fellas use skis...

The skis are cool! It never ceases to amaze me what humans come up with.
