Australia's TAC (Transport Accident Commission) put out quite a few shock type safety ads. Kind of interesting. Be forewarned, some of this is a bit graphic.

I'm as guilty as sin of riding w/o adequate protection. I usually don't wear a helmet when I ride some where in this one hose town. There's really just one four lane (two each way) and the speed limit is 40mph. I pretty much always helmet-up when I ride out of town for any distance. If I am going for a serious ride (especially on unfamiliar roads) I will wear more protection. I'm glad you posted those vids though. I always drive very defensively and assume the worst from all drivers. Want to see a neat road rash scar on my left shoulder?

I'm good about the helmet for the most part. The only time I don's always wear a helmet is when I'm tuning going 1/8 mile up and 1/8 mile back. Even then I wear it 70% of the time. Generally I stop wearing it once I'm really tired of tuning. I just wear jeans unless it's cold enough to layer. Don't have any real riding pants. I will wear a jacket any time it doesn't make me sweat. I even bought a mesh jacket thinking I could wear it when it's pretty warm without being uncomfortable according to reviews. Not so much. So unless it's a cool night, I'm just wearing a tshirt all summer. Gloves are the other thing I am good about. I have a mesh pair for the summer, then a vented pair for milder temps, a pair for down to about 40 degrees, and now a pair for the coldest riding. I'm still guilty of wearing sneakers to ride. I have a pair of motorcycle boots but they are so uncomfortable that they rarely get worn. I've got road rash scars on my wrist and knees. All of the scars on my knees are from when I was wearing jeans or jeans and thermals. What's on my wrist is from where my gloves and jacket separated. The rest of the road rash I've had has been mild enough to heal without scars eventually. Crashing is the best way I know of to really appreciate the gear... but I still don'trecommend doing it to learn a lesson. lol
I do ride defensively to the best of my ability and stay alert. Just as one video shows, I'm always watching cars waiting to enter the roadway. The way people like to speed to a stop sign ad then brake hard makes me nervous as do the folks that insist on creeping forward rather than remaining stopped. Since I'm stuck on the shoulder so much, I watch my mirrors a lot. Looking for the folks drifitng off to the side on their cell phone or whatever and if I'm going the speed limit or better on the shoulder I'll slow down when cars get close to get them around me faster. That said, I'm still very guilty of doing stupid things when I ride. I have to have some fun.

OUCH.. :jaw: ... thanks??? i think for sharing the vids...... i also am guilty of not riding with enough protective gear, as i dont really have ANY besides a beenie helmet.(which isnt gonna do sh*t)... I HATE A HELMET, but gotta have em in n.c..... man, those vids make a lil more weary... .... an old saying in these parts: If you have 2 wheels and HAVENT layed it down, then you dont ride...... 2 types of ppl ride; those that have layed down and those that are waiting to lay it down.... :scoot2: :riding:

 Well that makes me feel better Most of my ride is to and back for work, wear my armored jacket always (till it hits the 90's, figure heat stroke is just as bad for you on 2 wheels), jeans always, gloves when it's cold. 3/4 helmet, and prescription goggles. I have a full face but I have to make it fit with my glasses yet. I havn't rashed myself, but these aches and pains in the knee and shoulder now that it's cold remind me it was a good idea to wear the stuff.
