Does anyone have a car - 1996 Volvo V40? My coworker has this car (automatic, gas powerd). The car has a electric problem or something. When he drives, sometimes the elecric power goes away, but engine works. He asked help from one dude. He told him, that maybe this Volvo has 2 Grounds - one near the battery and other somewhere under the car. My coworker hasked my help too, but I´m not a expert on cars. Can anyone knows, what to do?

Make sure both battery terminal connections are secure first. Then look for loose grounds or connections elsewhere. You could put a multimeter to the - terminal of the batt and the chassis and engine and see if you have essentially 0 ohms resistance.

It could also be a bad connection at the main power supply box. They are usually under the hood near the battery(plastic box with fuses inside).Pull each fuse 1 at a time and look for a corroded connection, clean and lube each fuse before reinstalling..Hope this helps!

Also could be an alternator on its way out? Alot of euro etc stuff will shut down everything except engine systems if current output drops off dramaticly.

When he drives, sometimes the elecric power goes away, but engine works. Ask him to clarify this lots more. What specifically of the electric power goes away? Does he lose instrument cluster, lights, horn, wipers, radio, lights, power seats, & windows etc? Or what does function other than engine?

I think he loses all these things - instrument cluster, lights, horn, wipers, radio, lights, power seats, & windows etc, and engine stays running. I will check that problem with multimeter, when I meet him tomorrow. I told him to charge the battery. When I opened the hood (or bonnet), then I noticed, that both battery wires where withot cover, near the connecting point. Tomorrow I will fix it also.

So I met my coworker @ my working place. I cleaned the terminals of the battery (both), and then we started the car. It was working fine trough few laps around the buildings. Looks kike the problem was the dirty terminals so far. But hes going to sell this car anyway. So lets hope this problem is gone, before the car is sold. When the problem comes back, then the new owner can mess with that. So far it is fixed, from my point of view I quess.
