Flip #20- Another Adly Panther "Ugly Duckling #2" $220

   I snagged up this 2t Adley Panther tonight for flip #20! This is my second flip "Panther"- see the first one way back in flip #3 HERE. The guy cleaned the carb today and got it running so that was a pleasant surprise. I let him do the talking first when I asked his bottom dollar and got the scoot for $220!




It has the typical cosmetic issues and the exhaust seems a bit louder than it should like it's leaking somewhere. I have owned several Adly scoots now and I really like them. Aside from the strangely alluring oddball Minarelli 2t engine, they seem to have really nice build quality. Maybe it's because they're made in Taiwan and not China? I always highlight that fact in my sales ad and it does seem to help to sell them. Of course I'll add this pic that I love haha:

Them adly scoots are growing on me might have something to do with those 2 moto 90 motors laying in the garage lol

  Making some cosmetic changes right off the bat...




This scoot has some really deep gouges on some of the body panels that go all the way deep into the plastic. Since prepping and painting is so time consuming I've decided to go a different route on this scoot- back to my scoot roots- vinyl wrap! I ordered this carbon fiber vinyl and some other decals to go on this scoot so I don't have to do so much painting...




Oh yes, I also ordered these waffle grips in blue since the grips on this scoot are worn down and poopy looking. Depending on how much I like them they might end up being swapped onto my scoot and my current grips onto this scoot... We'll see!

  Been digging into this Panther hot n heavy today!
Like I suspected, it looks like although the P.O. installed the "performance" filter, the carb still had a 75 main jet in. You can see the effects later....
 I want to clean up this less than ideal fuel line plumbing:




I've been debating about what I should do with the engine on this scoot. I'm wondering whether I should leave it alone as stock 49cc or put a BBK in. Well, after a little further inspection of the cylinder I see that question has been pretty much answered for me...



  Ouch! That explains why it seemed a bit loud when the seller started it up..
Next up I gave the scoot a much needed bath!




...and got the engine up on the operating table...




Well, well, looky here!



It's already got a BBK! Too bad that exhaust mount ear is broken off...




Looks like this cylinder has seen some damage from the exhaust leak and lean carb tune.... Not too awful though- I'd run it again!



I decided to pick the $50 China cylinder from the pile and install it...



Here comes the mailman and he has a box for me! Damn I love PFS! They ship lightning quick!




Just like I figured, I ended up swapping these new grips onto my scoot and putting mine onto this one...



Now to keep chugging along!

That's quite a cylinder kit collection you've got there. The PO must have also been a collector... of fuel hoses. 4 from tank to petcock.

  Been a little bit since I updated this thread and this scoot got put on the back burner for a bit, but it's finished now and I took pics along the way!

The P.O. installed a new throttle cable and looks like deleted the oil injection to make things easier with the single cable. I cobbled together a dual cable assembly from some parts but the throttle cable ended up pretty long. I looped it around and it's worked out just fine.




Painted up the CVT cover:



...And cleaned up the ol' rusty exhaust...



Painted the shock as almost an afterthought:



At some point I got caught up trying to piece together a decent 70cc setup from the few pistons and cylinders I have. I must've tried three different combos and wasn't happy with the fit or compression of any of them... I can't get the cylinder off while the engine is in the scoot due to the design of the frame so I must've pulled the darn thing in and out four times over! I ended up just putting a 49cc Yamaha Zuma cylinder in and calling it done. This cylinder and piston was in great shape and I finally got a decent compression test.

  

Next I moved on to cosmetics and decided to use the vinyl wrap (carbon fiber) this time instead of painting. I forgot how much of a PITA vinyl is on curvy panels like our scoots and decided to just go with a small 'wave' design- enough to cover the scratches. I really like the "49 RR" logos!



  The red pinstriping kept peeling off the one side so I just got rid of it...
The one thing I regret as far as cosmetics is my decision to add the orange into the paint scheme. It just looks out-of-place IMO, but I figured it's not going to change the asking price of the scoot by changing it so I just left it as-is. Here she is all done!
