The good news was that I found a workshop manual for it via the manuals link...... thanks guys for that. It's the first scooter that I've owned, so the belt vario drive is new to me. Also, I found it weird that the needle appears to be electroplated..... with the plating coming off. Anyway, I've got it running but it of course misfires as speed increases. I'll start posting in the troubleshooting forum. In the meantime, here's some pictures of the needle

Not sure if that's just an effect of the lens used, but the needle looks bent in the pics. Even if that's just the lens, replace it so you don't have to worry about bits flaking off and going into the engine and so the needle can move smoothly.

I think it is a lens effect, as I was using an add-on macro lens. A bit weird though eh..... an electroplated needle...... I've seen brass, and aluminium. Also it's a bit crap that is has decided to part company...... it can't have been well plated in the first place. I've looked for replacement needles but failed. I did see a couple of repair kits, but neither seller details the needle nor jet size...... perhaps they are all the same. I either try that, or produce a mod for a PHBN 16 that have. Anyway..... I've got the thread up and running, so we'll see if there are any other members who own similar kit.
