Something I checked today and never really checked on my Scooter's NGK Iridium plug was the gap.
I've read so many posts where everyone is pretty much under the thought to never gap an Iridium plug as you can actually damage the center electrode easily, which I agree.
This is taken directly from the NGK website: If adjusting the gap on fine wire or precious metal plugs such as platinum or iridium be very careful not to apply any pressure or prying force to the fine wire center electrode or insulator as they can be damaged. The gap should be adjusted by only moving the ground electrode.
So in checking my plug, I noticed it was set at .8mm. Wow.. Didn't realize it was set to that. I decided to go ahead and just lightly tap the ground electrode to shorten the space down to .6mm..
I may be dealing with somewhat of a placebo effect, but it made a significantly noticeable difference in the way the scooter runs! Before it was a bit hard to start and I would have to keep the start button held for a few seconds. Now, it's almost instantaneous. Also, It seems to have quite a bit more power.
Like I said.. maybe placebo effect... maybe not..
All I'm saying is If you are using a NGK Iridium plug, make sure to check the gap. I pretty much just assumed it was set properly and never really checked it.

i was taught to always check and verify everything especially spark plug gap, before installing....just saying...anything else is just plain old back yard guessing.

That's funny I never check!!! They are factory gaped To spec I believe anyway.....Heck if it won't start or run correctly the you have a much bigger problem than plug gap on any engine IMO.....it's really about how strong your coil is anyhow right???

I'm not running iridium.. I had to gap my plug down to .55 under hard acceleration to stop it from misfiring.. A ncy high tension coil did help to control the misfire better from the stock coil.

I can almost guarantee the NCY high tension coil would make some sort of a difference if you're having problems with misfire if you significantly increased the engine's normal output being that the stock coil doesn't provide a strong enough spark. With the stock coil and plug gap set at .7mm it was misfiring like it had a rev limiter. After that i only installed the ncy coil and notice a improvement only misfired every now and then..when it didn't misfire I only got a slight hesitation like it wanted too. So I gap the plug from 0.7 to 0.55 now it's been running good ever since.

so what is the benefit of the iridium spark plug? I have seen lots of people have them... but is it actually worth it?

They can make starting easier. IMO don't buy one if you think you'll have a faster scooter.

Every few thousands miles or when you see fouling or erosion.
