Keep an eye on local papers and other news media. If you see something up for consideration regarding scooter laws, good or bad, don't forget that you can write your representatives. It may not make a difference, but it sure won't hurt to spend a few minutes of your time sharing your concerns.

Trust me, there are times when i burn that phone line up for " my" politicians...(obsessed with scoots and politics these days). I will definately keep my eyes on this. They have tried to change laws here in n.c last year. N.c is more relaxed than these other states from what i see from ppl like 2 strokd

Wow, more roundabouts to make riding safer? Slow traffic? I could put up a cam on the one here and set that strait, LOL. I did like the idea to put moped rights questions in the drivers tests though.

Roundabouts can be good. They can be horrible too. We had one put in not too far from me to replace a dangerous intersection. It's a 50MPH rod that is intersected by a road that's 25MPH on one side and 30MPH on the other. There hasn't been any trouble from the slow sides, but when it was new there were some bad crashes from folks that were unaware that it was no longer just a caution light and a clear roadway. At least a couple of people were killed. Then again, it's kinda hard to blame a roundabout for people going too fast and not noticing a concrete circle in front of them or slowing traffic. Now that people are used to it, I like it. Of course my area isn't exactly a city so it's more calm then roundabouts in heavier traffic areas.
I know it can be a sore subject, but I'm glad helmet laws are under consideration in some areas. Info about moped rights is good for all drivers to know... not that anyone really cares. lol I don't really think that will change much, but it can't hurt. Sticking a few questions on tests about bikes in general would be nice on a standard license test. Never hurts to be aware of the folks sharing the road with you.

This progressive city i'm in is placing those dam round abouts all over the place... Here, alot are more hazardous than anything, but the hippies get to decorate the landscape and paint everything under the sun..(even graffeti(sp?) painting city buses). Personally i hate the helmet laws, i'm one of those that want to feel the wind.. . You'd think i'd be more for them since helmets helped save 2 very good friends this summer.(ted still lost a leg, audrey still hobbling on crutches still). Also have had a few homeys killed by a helmet(believe it or not). the helmet caught and actually broke his neck, almost decapitated him from the helmet catching..(of course he may not have survived anyway, he was speeding hardcore.(1 of my old clubs..L.O.D baby) I agree tho about amybe some questions about scooters on the test.. Now adays here, kids get thier lisence with only 3 days in class(2 days in class, 1 day driving).. when i got mine, i had book work for 6 months, then a simulater for 6 months, THEN you drove the drivers ed car. Could be a part of that "microwave" society we have become...

The official statement from the city planners was, yes more accidents on the roundabout, but at slower speeds, so it's better.

Here in Florida if your scoot can't maintain 60mph you are potential road kill. People don't drive the speed limit down here. In 2007 I had verucci avispa that i just put an 80cc kit on and was flying down a country road at 50mph. The 18 wheeler behind me ran me off the road trying to pass me and I crashed and broke my arm. Even in city traffic if don't gun it at the light and go 10mph above the limit like all the other cars then, you are gone get honked and side swiped.
a 4t 50cc in FL is a death wish. For safety I use the bicycle lane sometimes.

The drivers here in sunny FL can be pretty bad, I agree. So far my luck has been good, and my scoot is far from fast. I don't feel confortable on roads with a speed limit of over 45. So I avoid them. I'm in Tampa, though. As much as I complain about all the dumb-ass drivers here, I know that Orlando is much, much worse. I'm already thinking about getting a 125+ for a bit more speed/safety margin.
