I haven't been on here since I bought an '82 Magna 750 but still thinking of my Scoot buddies! I can travel farther and on highways now but the funny thing is I usually go slower than on my scoot. It was fun to try and wring out as much speed as possible on the Peace but now it's just a laid back ride with my feet on the highway pegs. I had rebuilt the scooter with a new crank and 80cc piston after the 100cc kit ate the crank at 10000 KM. When I put it all back together and went to start it the battery cable was pinched under the valve cover and a wiring connector fried. I did a quick patch and it didn't help. So...I went for a ride on the Honda and Little Blue sits. A Craigslist ad attracted the usual loonies and losers. But I still wave at passing scooters!

Right on for giving the wave to scooterists. I got a lil miffed when I don't get the wave back. We're both out on two, risking it as well, your faster, I'm nimbler, respect!

I have bigger bikes too so I know what you mean. I guess our tastes and preferences are fluid and change with time. Right now I'm big into my scooter and the big bikes sit. Who knows what lies ahead? I'm watching the price of gas keep creeping up too. I think at the very least I myself would hold on to a scooter in case it gets back over $3.00 a gallon which kinda looks certain now. Who knows how high it could go. Vintage bikes are the coolest btw. I actually worked on an 80's Magna 750 about 7 months ago. Fuel issues.

Honestly, I think the scooter was actually more fun to ride. The Magna is all business, usually I ride conservatively rarely getting above 5 grand on the tach, well below the 10 grand redline. But the scooter was always nearly wide open and waiting for more speed and getting surprised at what it will do uphill or down hill.

Scooters are definitely underestimated for the fun factor and it doesn't feel like an accomplishment to cruise around at 50 all day on a big bike. No disrespect to big bikes at all. I love 'em for the most part. If money were no object there would be a big bike in my garage, prob in pieces just like the scoots.

Scooters should get the same respect as all bikes beacuse its just a transition, most people start with something small before the big bikes... we all should respect our roots. I even waiv to bycicles i dont give a damn, thats how i started haha

I don't even see it as a transition and people saying that stuff to me bugs me. Like, are you ready for a big bike yet? Scooters are not like diapers or pull-ups that you wear just before you're ready for big boy pants.
I think if some of the bikers that think they live so dangerously cruising around on weekends were to ride on the shoulder and deal with some of the stuff scoots have to, they may change their opinions of scooter riders or just think we're even crazier for not getting a big bike. No, we aren't going to be rolling 150MPH down the highway and for most of us twisting the throttle all the way is not a death-defying act, but we're still out there dealing with idiots that can't drive or pay attention and we still enjoy 2 wheels. I think the enjoyment part really is missed though, as if we only ride scooters because we have no other option. Meanwhile some of the same folks that tell me to get a big bike would go to a dealer for an oil change or think a good mod is another piece of chrome. I'd never be able to make them understand what I enjoy at that point. They just wanna buy speed, buy power, and have someone else maintain it with a warranty and/or own something they think their friends and neighbors will envy. Prob what the avg person wants, but not what everyone enjoys.

Yup , went from scooters to large bikes , then back to scooters. To me scooters are just a simple , fun form transportation & entertainment. also its way cool to be able to park your 50cc sized scoots @ bike racks , for extra security (lock spot) and convience of not looking for a parking spot 1/4 mile away.

I've got a '84 V65! Love that motorcycle. Everyone asks me how fast I've had it. I always tell them 55mph! Bought it from someone who wrecked it and did a frame up on it myself, but honestly, I've not even rode my Magna in probably 2 years! Here's mine when I finished the rebuild. I went gunmetal grey including the frame, but kind of wish I'd left it stock with the candy red metallic. I actually got the scooter bug last year when I bought my wife a Yamaha Vino 50 Classic 4T for her birthday. That scooter is just amazing and fast! I just bought one for me a month ago or so. Found a GY6 50cc chinese scooter that I got for $100. I'm now running with a 50mm BBK, and just bought a big valve head (waiting on it to arrive this week). I find it almost just as fun tweaking as it is riding, and I actually like riding the scooter better than my motorcycle. Just seems more fun. I originally found it a bit funny though when I started riding my scooter and every motorcycle gave me the hand gesture as I passed them. I now see it as respect..

I wouldn't say scooters ARE a transition, I don't think I want a motorcycle, BUT I do think its probably better for someone who wants to ride to start out on like a 150cc or something small (don't know why it has to be a scooter though lol)

The only requirement is a valid drivers license or permit. Most all if not all roads are max speed 35mph in our city. There are some back roads that are 45mph going out in the country, but they are not minimum speed rated. Of course I don't plan on doing any massively long cross country trip or anything like that. We have our scooters to have fun around town. It definitely all depends on what you are wanting one for. If I had to drive one out of necessity to work and back 30 miles, I'd probably opt for a larger scooter or motorcycle. If I lived in a larger city with higher speed limits I'd probably also do the same. I will say one thing. My wife and I have started a bug in our neighborhood also. Now we have 3 separate neighbors that are looking at buying scooters. Pretty soon we'll have to buy the leather jackets and spiked helmets and start a scooter gang!

Silar, my '82 had 8,200 miles when I got it April 3. Now 10,500. I paid $1500, Just slightly over KBB value but it has new tires, battery, recent carb service, new fork seals and I got a helmet and back rest luggage. The orginal owner bought it as a new left over and used it one season then it sat for 20 years until the guy I bought it from got it. I've been sanding and buffing the aluminum and it has original paint and decals. I'll try to get a vid of it up for you.

I used to think bigger, faster equals more fun, but am older and wiser now. An 80 to 100 mile trip on the bike is no big deal just a ride out. On the scooter it is an adventure
