Ok, as is often the case this is all Brent's fault. After watching the bobber videos he/you posted in my other thread i decided to take a stab at finishing the parts bike and going with the bobber design the PO had started. As it sat when it came home. You can see the chopped tail and lowered stance. This is going to be a 2 phase plan. Phase 1: Budget $200 Rough build to get it running and roadworthy. Work through the process to get it titled. Phase 2. If I get it titled and in good enough shape to pass inspection then i'll start over at "finish" quality. So- I started this weekend going through the boxes doing an inventory. Cleaned up the body panels and sanded the rust off the tank. Then the first pass with a "rust killer" primer. Tank is in ok shape, but will need glazing and sanding before final paint. But that will be phase 2. The PO told me the tank / petcock was leaking, so i have it torn apart and soaking for cleaning. I can get a gasket / diaphragm kit for $23 if i have to, but i'm going to re-assemble and leak test first. Tight budjet 'n all. He had also shortened the seat base and gotten a old short seat pad. I knocked the rust off the seat pan and washed it. I'll paint it tomorrow. Then cover with an old t-shirt or something. I know this a lot of detail but hey it's the first time i'm actually going "under the hood" and we all know how scary that is!!!

Ok, as is often the case this is all Brent's fault. lol So far all the purchases and projects you've blamed me for have turned out well, so I'll gladly take the blame for your successes! ;D Looks like this is going to be a cool project. As long as you stick to the tight budget at first, it's hard to go wrong. It's a learning experience, which is an important part of any good build.

You've never led me wrong yet! Especially since it should all be a fun learning exercise. Can't go wrong then.
Off to the DMV tomorrow...

Well it was fun watching the confused looks at the DVD today. After getting pushed of to the state capital i decided to skip it and go with an agency.
International Title Service will set me up for $265 complete with a Title and plate. Since it by-pases my state taxes i guess it is not to bad.
So now the plan is to get the tank / petcock sorted and run the bike out to my mechanic. If it fires, runs and he doesn't see any major problems then i'll pull the trigger on the title.

Damn. That's not a bad deal. Easier and cheaper than I would have expected for what it includes.

Im glad to hear that you are getting it back on the road! Be a shame to let one that nice go to parts....Have your mech sink the carbs for you, or at least check em, im sure he has an A/F meter to check em. Sounds like they are off in the vid.?. My buddy has one just like this one. Works great! And they are always off if they havent been sunk in a long time, or you change filters, etc....
Could be the valves to i guess? Sounds good to me tho! Great deal Tim, you deserve it! :thumb:

If nobody has one, you can make a manometer. I made one to sync the dual carbs on a Suzuki for a friend. Never got to use it, because he backed out of working on the bike and just let it sit as-is. Gave the homemade tool to a friend and he said it worked great. It was nothing more than a long length of clear tubing, a yard stick, some tape and/or zip ties, and ATF to partially fill it. I put about $5 into it. The manometers you can buy are nicer, just depends what your budget is. You'll need adapters for the vacuum ports on the carb as well if you do it homemade or if the meter doesn't come with them. www.motionpro.com/motorcycle/partno/08-0411

Great help guys. Thanks!
My guy can sync and tune the carbs no prob.
Update:
Glazed the tank to fill in the ripples. Not sure but i"m thinking i may do a textured paint job on it since i'm thinking of this as a "RatBobber".
Started fixing up the seat with a T-shitrt cover for now.
Petcock cleaned up, rebuild kit on order.
I plan to finish out the tank, instal the petcock and seat and get it all reedy for starting then take it out to the shop and let him look it over before we fire it up. Then have him do the carbs. Then i"ll bring it home and start in on the wheels.
The paint plan i have is gonna be cool. I think...
