nice!Athena makes solid cranks. Also dont heat the case. unless its 100% even like in an oven. I've been told they can distort and warp. No bueno I was thinking of trying a HF heat gun. If it's not to hot tomorrow I'll give it a go. Still have to pick up a 12mm polini piston for the crank so I have some time. Let me know if you need parts. I'll beat online prices and I have about 1400 parts on hand

Will do Brandon. Thanks. Installed new crank and bearings into the case using the hot cold method aided by the case bolts towards the end. Installed stator, starter, fan, variator, and clutch. Lightly filed the piston crown. Even without a base gasket the top of the piston didn't fully clear all the ports at bdc. Gaskets came with a bent metal base gasket. Decided not to tempt it. Installed all the seals except for the rear axle seal. Forgot to order it last week. Be out of town for a week for work. So it should be here when I get back.

Is that a standard crank?

Is that a standard crank? Yeah. 39mm. Stuffer. I should have went with a stroker.

I was wondering if you had a long rod. Anyway, did you try a thick base gasket so that you could get those ports above the top of the piston?

All I had was the thin metal one that came bent. Shaped like a base and not a head gasket. Even with no gasket it's fine. The tight squish should wake it up. I filed the crown enough to get it to flow. The transfer ports are a still high. I've looked online and only found thick aluminum spacers. Spaz if you have a link I'll take it.. EDIT: I haven't calipered the solder but it definetley looks like 1mm if not more.

That's weird for a Polini to be so far off like that. Well, not that I've ever had one. 190mech, what you think about that piston being so high above the ports at bdc?

Looking for gasket sets for that they all look like just one thin gasket, except maybe this one?: www.racingplanetusa.com/cylinder-gasket-polini-minarelli-horizontal-engines-p-165113-1.htmlSeems like something is wrong with your setup if Polini only supplies one thin gasket and expects it to work... You bought it used, are you sure that's the piston that came original with the kit? You sure you don't have an 85mm rod on that crank? How much does the cylinder need to be raised to be flush with the ports? I wouldn't run it without fixing it.

Thanks for the link guys. Yeah atleast 1mm or more. I didn't even bother measuring manually. Battery died in the HB calipers. The cylinder and piston were brand new never ran. They were part of a package someone was putting together for a scooter that never got delivered so they sold it. My guess the corsa just needs a longer stroke for both a thicker gasket and a tight squish to be ran right. The top ring clears the bottom of the ports. So technically it shouldn't be that bad.

Speaking from experience, and from what I have learned on this forum you should not run it that way. Fab up a spacer or buy one and mod it to fit your cylinder.

That's the thing I either have to fab one up. Or stack 3 or 4 of the paper spacers that are available. Probably cheaper to make one.

I agree, that piston should be farther down. I have used a beer box to cut gaskets and a thin layer of permatex. Something strange is going on there..

I meant to ask, what does TDC look like? Is it above or below deck?
