Noticed something pretty strange tonight fooling with the carb again. To start with, I had to take the little cap from the stock intake box tube and shove it inside the aftermarket intake elbow when I first got it to restrict some airflow because it was bogging out at WOT. It was too much air. Tonight I was just curious to see what would happen if I took it out again. It runs better now without it. WTF! SO i messed with a/f screw and got it running smoothly and gained 2mph top speed, Putting me just at 40mph. (the GPS speedo bounces back and forth between 39 and 40 but mostly maintains 40). The aftermarket pod filter should supply the air needed for the 20mm carb on the way to me. Who knows. Maybe I will finally break 45mph after all.
Sometimes I wish I could just give Brent a thousand dollars and leave my scoot with him to tune it for me.

You should throw a new plug in it real quick and go for a run to make sure you're not running too lean. WOT

I thought about that. No time tonight. Gotta get to bed. Throwing the restriction back in tomorrow morning just to be on the safe side.

Collected a little data today. 6 run average 0-30mph = 17.8 seconds. Top speed average 5 mile run (4 runs) with and against what little wind there was =38mph Acceleration seems to be ok. Top speed is disappointing. Thinking about the NCY performance clutch assembly but it's $150. Considering some final drive gears as well, as I know that's a pretty major contributing factor to top end. Brand new clutch assembly is throwing grease all over the CVT. It hasn't gotten on the belt or anything. Still though. I don't think it should be doing that. It's only about 4 days old. Bad seal?

I would suspect a bad seal. Can you return it or at least have them send you a new seal? I would think because it's not an electrical part that they should do something to make you happy.

Yeah I can get a solid gps/bike speedo verified 36/37 mph on flats. I've removed the restrictions from the stock airbox (the rubber tube on the inside and the snorkel on the inlet,) put a #90 main jet in, and filed down the variator drive face a little, and some 1.5k clutch springs. Other than that it's all stock. I used to have some 5 gram sliders in it but I took those out cause it seems to have a little more oomph with the stockers. I'd go ahead and throw on that big valve head and an a9 cam. Apparently everyone on this forum says they notice pretty large gains from that cam. Oh, and I weigh about 210 pounds.

There has to be more in that setup. I'm basically 300 pounds and with only a free timing advance mod, carb tuning, and CVT tuning I averaged right about 17.8 second 0-30s. Your top speed average is pretty close too. Mine is really slow because of my weight, so I'd expect even a smaller rider on a mostly stock scooter like mine to be at least a couple of seconds quicker to 30. Top speed I'd think should be similar. Mine right now is a little slower because of a replacement stock variator that doesn't work quite as well, but it's still in the 18s 0-30. I would suggest picking up a compression tester. Great tool to have. I have an Actron and a Snap-On. I bought the Actron looking for a cheap alternative that works, since some report major issues with cheap compression testers. It's worked well for me so far. THIS is the one I have. You may find Actron products in local auto parts stores as well. A tach is also an excellent tuning tool. Every scoot should have one IMO... at least if you care at all about performance. I have trouble with torque drivers sealing on my 139QMB as well. I use some Permatex Ultra Grey under the base of the cover for the torque driver and that has kept the grease where it belongs. It makes checking the TD more of a chore though because you have to clean up the old RTV and apply more each time.

I told the seller about the clutch assembly and they just offered to send a new one. Why not..I'll take it.
I know there has to be more to it. Not sure exactly what I'm missing. I'm trying to get around to testing compression I just work too darn much. I gapped the piston rings with a file to specifications. Hopefully I didn't screw something up. STG dropped the price on that racing engine. Might get that so I can bench this one and turn it into a BEAST.
Got my Keihin 20mm carb today. Need to tune all over again. Backfires when I hit the throttle. Carbs aren't "plug and play" though, so that was expected.

Decided to get the stage 3 performance kit from STG. 50mm piston, 44mm stroker crank, A9 cam, 49/17t Gears.
It'll be a couple of weeks before I can get it.

Hoping this will get me to at least 50mph. I would be satisfied with that.
