Hi Guys, I recently purchased one of these kits from scrappydog www.scrappydogscooters.com/images/21mm-jog-variator.jpgAfter installing it and running the scooter for about 500km the belt snapped on me, when I went to inspect the damage and replace the belt, I discovered all the teeth on the outer drive face have been sheared off and it has been free spinning for some time, any ideas why this might have happened :S the original spline key suffered a similar fate and this is why I bought the integrated one thinking it wouldn't break My Scooter is a Vmoto Monza (1e40qmb motor) I have installed a 70cc BBK (scrappy) exhaust (scrappy) 1.2k Big spring at back 1.5k clutch springs I was thinking it could be the rear spring?, I had a 1500rpm spring on it previous and it snapped the belt with in 20km of installing oh and I guess while I'm asking, does anyone know where I can get another drive face from, I"m building up quite a collection of variator kits due to not being able to purchase the star keys separately I thank you for any advice that might help.

:welcome: I think their "new and improved" design that eliminates the key might be a bad idea. Normally you have the aluminum vari face and then a key that fits over the splines and into the stock vari fan. That key is made of steel rather than aluminum, so it's a lot sturdier. Stiffer contra springs will put a little more stress on the front pulley, not sure that it's the issue here though. Here's one place to get a big spline fan... www.kaseaparts.com/skyhawk-90-quad-clutch-c-24_119.html

Thank you very much for the info I have spend many hours looking for those star washers, the closest I get is finding a site but they're out of stock or finding stock but wont ship to australia. Something is definitely holding up the drive belt, the spline on the crankshaft is a little misshaped and bent :/ Maybe I'm just too fat ~~~

You may be able to use a file to clean the splines up enough that everything slides on okay again. Also, make sure you are not tightening the variator against the belt. Open the rear pulley and get the belt in there so you're sure it's clear up front before tightening.

G'day Mate, At least you can get those good Dayco scooter tranny belts there. :thumb: Can only get Dayco automotive applications here in the States. Cheers
