Hello All,
My name is John C. and I registered yesterday. I’ve been lurking around this site reading posts, learning, experimenting, etc. for some time now. You guys seem like you’re having fun, so I decided to join in. I have a 50cc 4T Chinese scooter that I recently (this week) upgraded to a BBK (83cc?). It included an adjustable carb, A9 cam, CDI, coil, Hi Flo exhaust, ported heads w/ matching intake ( I did the machine work on those)and new petcock w/tubing. Thanks to all the great postings here, I had little problems with the whole adventure! Now I just need to re-install the plastics and go for a ride.

I got my scooter about two years ago second hand from a co-worker who wrecked it into a telephone pole and his wife said “it has to go”……….. A little body work and basic maintenance; I was on my way to “scooting”. I’ve used it for trips to the grocery store, auto parts store, etc. when weather permits, plus my wife likes riding it too. Recently, my job transferred me to a location which is about 10 miles from my home so I want to use the scooter as a daily driver…..Why not, right? While I have several high performance vehicles and an MC license, I like riding my little scooter around. Although I’m told I look kind of funny being 6’2” riding it down the road.

I’m a retired Police Officer living in Ellicott City, Maryland who has become a recycled government employee current in the business side of things. My other hobbies and toys include my three bulldogs, a Mustang GT, a 83-86’ Jeep CJ7 which underwent a frame off reto-mod, a way over built EZGO golf cart and my trusty RAM 2500 w/ a Cummins. And of course a $100 beat-up Chinese scooter. My background is in vehicle fabrication, axle and gearbox/transfer case building and engine building from the AMC straight 6’s up to the Ford 427 CobraJet over the years.

This weekend I’m planning on picking up another 50cc scooter that is being sold as a “parts” donor. I want to build a “stroker” 50cc and go all out on it.

Is the 50cc your looking at a 2 stroke or 4 stroke?

If you want to go "all out" I would suggest looking for a 2 stroke, they are faster (both acceleration and top speed) and have a bigger "tuning" scene associated with them.

Maybe?? Its a thought! But I have no experience with 2 strokes. Would a 2 stroke engine fit in any chassis?

if it has the same mounting style yeah.

2 strokes are simpler imo

What are you going to put the engine into? your current build?

I'm not sure which frame yet? I have my current KingRing "Sunny" scoot or I'm picking up a donor "Dazon" scoot, but I really just wanted the engine and trans from it. I also offered it to another Forum member if he wanted just the chassis.

I'm good fab with work, it's really no problem. Just want avoid getting in over my head and having to put if off while I think through stuff.

Look for a cheap 2 stroke fixxer upper, you will have loads of potential. You can make a stroker build with it too if its a minarelli which I think most are.

People on here have made 90-100cc 2 stroke strokers and gotten like 60-70mph with them!

With fabrication skills, you could make the 2T work if you wanted to. On the other hand, there's a pretty good market for scoots in your neck of the woods I think so it may be worth just waiting on the right deal for a whole 2T scoot. I love two-strokes, but the four-strokes are fun to work on or play with as well.
