I have a scooter out in the shop that I fixed up after the owner wrecked it. He owes me $250 for parts and labor. He said he's broke right now and want's me to just sell it for whatever I can get for it and give him the difference but the problem is it's got no paperwork and there's no record of the VIN number in the DMV database. I've heard of salvage titles being issued for cars that have been totaled and repaired. Is this something I could try? I wish I knew more about registration laws. I want to just call the guy and tell him forget it and to pay me my money and take the scooter with him but it might take months to get the money that way.
Is there any way to register a scooter that has no records?

I know WT100 got a title worked out for his motorcycle. If it's a 49cc, I dunno if it would work the same or not. I suppose it should for M class scoots. I coulda swore he mentioned the company in one of his threads, now I don't see it. Prob looking over it.

This is the link - www.its-titles.com/The process starts by e-mailing them the details of your cycle and they will send you an estimate of the charge. The will get you a title and plate good for a year. At the end of that year (or when ever) you take the title to your state office and transfer it. For my 30 year old 650 the cost is $265. I think that is based on the value and the size of the bike. I haven't started the process yet but it is probably just a couple of hours work. Would be less for you because there is an extra step for bikes over 500cc. Would be interesting to see what it costs for a 150cc scoot. Good luck! BTW i went down to my local license office to see about doing it myself. The confused responses i got convinced me that this is probably not a fun DIY!!!

Thanks for the info guys. It's too much hassle and cost for me to deal with. I guess I'll just try to sell it for whatever I can get for it on CL. It's a 150cc. I was thinking $600 OBO. I replaced the entire front plastics, the lower side plastic, painted it, replaced one fork tube, horn, left rear blinker, brake light switch, changed the oil etc... It runs good. The only thing that bugs me about it is since I replaced the fork tube the brake pads chatter when you push it with the steering turned to the left. I might try bleeding them.

$600 for a scoot that needs to be registered as a MC but has no paperwork sounds a little steep. Looking at the scoot, it's very fair. But that paperwork issue is gonna keep the bids down I think. That's a damn nice scoot for the $250 bill the owner let it go for.

I'll be shocked if you can get anything like that out of it. But if you do you should keep it all for the hassle of having to sell it.

Yeah, you're right. I figure I'll take $450 for it but why start out low? I might get $500.

Yup. I'm real bad about starting out way to low. My wife made me start very high on a 10 year old racing bicycle i sold las t year. Got about twice what i expected out of it.
So dream big!

SOLD for $450 cash! Cha-ching! I told the previous owner I sold it for $400 and I'd send him the $150 difference.
I feel that extra $50 is for pain and suffering. ;D

Yeah there's about 15-20 million people in LA County. I had 5 guys inquire about it within a couple of hours. I think the matte black is what sparked so much interest. It looks kinda mean.
