I'm thinking about changing my contra spring from the yellow one in it to a white one that I have. Would anyone know what kind of change in performance I should expect? The reason I want to do it is because I want to cut out the hesitation at takeoff and I think that would do it.

Not sure what white is. The springs I use are either blue, yellow, or red. 1000, 1500, and 2000RPM respectively. The stiffer the spring, the longer your scooter will stay in a lower "gear". It will also make it "downshift" faster, so that could improve the hesitation at takeoff when you are already moving. I can watch my pulley begin to open before my clutch engages, if yours does the same thing it may help keep a deeper gear for initial takeoff. A stiffer contra spring has some of the same effects as lighter roller weights. If your sole problem is the initial launch, you may need to look into heavier clutch springs.

I'm pretty sure the white spring has less tension than the yellow. The hesitation is actually before I start moving. The rpms are really high when it catches.

Here's what I plan to try when I get my impact wrench. I'm going to take the yellow contra spring out and put in the white one. I'm also going to put in heavier roller weights in the hopes that it will control my rpms a little better. I never thought I'd say this but I have way too much power for the kind of riding I need to do. I like having all that power on the back roads but when I'm in town it's almost impossible to keep my scooter around 30 mph. I'm hoping that this set up will allow me to travel at slower speeds more smoothly. I've already bested enough Fart canned Hondas off the line at stop lights to the point where the novelty has worn off. Time to get a little more practical. I don't know if this set up will do what I want it to but you have to start somewhere.

Wow. Too much power is a problem I'd love to have... and I don't think toying with ricers would get old for me. I'm just in shock that someone is actually trying to make a scooter go slower. lol

If it were me I would leave the contra spring alone at first at least and just up the roller weight mass something like 1.5g each to start with. The stiffer contra will help you on hills or when riding two-up. I'm pretty sure a less stiff contra would make your hesitation worse by letting the belt be pulled deeper into the rear pully.

Let me first say that I don't really want to lose any of my power, I just want to be able to control it a little better. Well I changed the yellow to the white spring and for once it did exactly what I wanted it to do. I've never had any luck with the yellow spring what ever the tension is it's always been too much and I've never had a scooter that ran smoothly with it installed. I think It wears belts down quicker too. My main issue was that my throttle was just too stiff and for some reason the rpms were just way too high. After I installed the white spring, my throttle is alot smoother and I am able to cruise at 30 as well as 55 without the rpms going too high. For instance before, my rpms were constantly over 10,000. I went on a 10 mile ride and my rpms rarely went over 9,000 and stayed mostly around the 7,500 to 8,500 range. The only thing I sacrificed was a little less takeoff power although the hesitation is gone and that was one of the things I wanted to get rid of anyway. As far as hills go I did'nt have any dropoff at all. I don't exactly understand how that one change can affect a scooters performance that much but it really does. I ended up leaving the rollers alone and with the way it worked out I'm glad I did. Oh and stepthrutuner, I was'nt trying to do the opposite of what you said. I actually did'nt read your post until right before I posted this. Doing it your way may have had the same effect as what I did. I just figured since this worked I'm gonna leave it alone for now.

Glad its back the way you want it. I had the same problem with my new clutch and springs? I used to run a yellow contra but with my clutch and vari i have now i have to run a blue1000 spring. It might be because my old spring is worn a bit? Its about a 1/4inch shorter if you stand em up next to each other. I ran a new yellow1500 for a day and concluded that i was spinning away some power and revving a bit to high so i switched to a new blue spring and its in the zone for now. I wondered what you meant by "to much power"...
