Hello I am new here. I have a 2011 49cc taotao scooter, it has about 4300 klm on it and i purchased it new. it has a aftermarket carb i cant remember what kind though. I have adjusted the valves as/per specs. The fuel lines and filter have been replaced. I put a manual fuel petcock on it also. Performance CDI just the orange one, iridium plug and i change the oil every 300 mi. Recently ( the past month) I have noticed when trying to ride it cold it will go about a block and then just slowly die twisting the throttle to give it more fuel does no good, and the top speed is slower than it used to be . wide open throttle just seems like it is snuffing it out until the engine gets hot or also the outside temp above 90 degrees . It feels like it does when you have a clogged air filter just bogs down. I put a new air filter on it to no avail. any ideas on what it could be?

HHHHHHMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ok do I have bad breath or something? Or is this A slow Chat thingy forum. umm.. I'm sure most of us have regular day jobs.. When you installed the manual petcock did you plug the intake port the vacuum petcock was connected to? Do you have the PAIR emissions still on the bike? Are you sure you put all the vacuum and fuel lines back in the right spots? Your bike is 4 years old and may have been sitting and now the carbs are clogged? Have you tried to clean the main jet or at least inspected it? Carb diaphragm torn? Does it idle fine but just won't run right?

9 times out of ten when a 4 stroke gets a symptom like hard starting or stalling over time it's a tight valve. I am nearly 100% certain that's your issue. Check and adjust your valves and I think this issue will clear up.

As Fox suggested and niz76 backed (listen to these 2 scoot ninjas!) check your valves and then post results. Then check your carb as Silar said (another scoot ninja). The technical section is a wealth of helpful information. The people on this forum will offer advice and help until the problem is resolved. Just be patient when waiting for reply's there is no Internet access when out scootin!

But hey thx for your 100% certainty.. please read my post b4 reply ng .

You didn't state when you adjusted the valves- and you also stated that this issue has been progressively getting worse for the last month. So when did you adjust the valves?? When it was new?? A month ago?? Fox wasn't saying your issue is hard starting- he was including the symptoms of valves needing adjusting. Sounds like your engine is heating up, valve lash tightens, then starts to run correctly... It's not that we didn't read your post- it's that you were quite vague on what was done when. So now we are left guessing and kindly trying to help you. BTW, when were all these performance parts installed? When it was new? After the scoot started acting up? It rode fine with these parts installed and now this is happening? We need these details. Not snarky remarks.

Please read my post b4 reply. thanx Did he just call me a "ng" ? I don't know what that is but it "sounds" bad.

I have a 2012 VIP and it used to do the same thing ( according to your description). I had to go down a jet size to get it to act right. I guess it wasn't hot enough to burn that much fuel when cold.

You're not getting off to a good start here man. I'm hoping that when you said 'ng' you meant 'negative' and not what everyone actually thinks you meant.. Fox was just suggesting something to check. You did mention adjusting the valves 'per spec' but 'per spec' does not mean that you adjusted them right. No one is saying you don't know what you are doing, but you did come here asking for help. Everyone here is human and makes mistakes.
If you blast the ones that are actually trying to help you, don't expect them to help much more. Like I tell my kids.. Don't bite the hand that feeds you..
