At the request of Brent, I'm making a build thread for my 2010 Gilera Runner SP 50. It's a baby runner, as they have 125 and 180cc big brothers. This is a continuation of: scootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=2stroke&action=display&thread=33545&page=8I haven't decided if I will continue to update both threads yet. A quick re-cap: Purchased at the end of last year for £2200, and invalidated the warranty within about a week. It started off as a mild 10500 RPM sport setup, and kind of escalated from there. -70cc (47.6mm) Stage6 Racing (12-13000 RPM) -0.6mm squish -Yasuni City 16 -Malossi reed block -VE 180cc intake manifold -RamAir foam filter -Polini Hi-Speed variator -Polini slider and Malossi torque control (one on each end of the spring) -21kg Polini contrast spring -Stage6 MKII clutch -Athena drive belt -22% PM gear up -4.3g Malossi rollers -Removal of oil injection, 33:1 premix -28mm Keihin PWK flatslide This is a dyno graph as it stands, a bit rough as the rollers are off: and, for comparison purposes, the 125cc 2T version, standard and with some upgrades: I'm the pipeline is a case flowing, port matching and full circle crank, hopefully in the next few weeks. To ride it takes a lot of self control, as banging the throttle open will bring a combination of wheel spin and a wheelie, at the same time.

For the past few days it's been a complete dog at both low and high revs, missing and bogging. I thought it was ignition related, but looking at the plug it seems to be lean, completely white bar some oil.
I've checked for air leaks (and found one, fixed that), but it carried on. Checked the main jet for blockages, completely clear. Mystified :help:

Thanks for posting your setup. I'm sure some folks here will be interested to see it.
Did you check for leaks with a leak down tester or just spraying something around the intake etc...? You've had a heck of a time with sudden rich/lean conditions with this thing.

You've had a heck of a time with sudden rich/lean conditions with this thing. Don't have a leak down tester I've been using leak detector spray round the intake manifold, it starts missing if there is a leak as it sucks it up. WD40 works too. It is possible that one of the crank seals has gone, but I have no way of checking. I think I'll just have to live with it until I can get it on the dyno for diagnosis in a weeks time, when hopefully it'll have new crank seals amongst other things. The problem I had was leakage in the joint between the rubber intake and metal base plate. They're only held together by a lip and the compression of the two screws.

I did attempt that, but had difficulty finding all the parts required. I never could find something that would block my exhaust port, it's not quite round.

I just use a piece of thick rubber sheet(4-6mm) and make a "solid gasket",install it between the cylinder and headpipe..

Yeah, that or you can cut a piece of steel to bolt up along with a rubber gasket instead of using a pipe.

Thanks for posting!!!
Ive held my hand over the ex.port for about 30sec. That is long enough to show any bad leaks anyway.

Thanks for the suggestions, I'll see if I can rig something up tonight. I'm fairly certain I've got a leak somewhere, it's giving all the signs; uneven RPM's, strange idle, stumbling under quick acceleration and rpm's hanging instead of settling down to idle.

I rigged up a compressor to the intake and sealed off the exhaust port. Pumped it up to 5 psi and sprayed soapy water everywhere, can't find any leaks. Stumped Now thinking either something gummed up in the carb (checked the main - fine), fuel starvation (pump packing in?) or ignition (I've tried a new plug and checked the CDI and stator wiring).

Have you taken the carb completely apart?Closely check pilot jet and passages, needle jet,& float level..

What about the trans? Im sure you know what a dirty or broken CVT component can do to performance? I know its a far shot but if the cvt if sluggish the motor will fallow. Have you pulled the cover? I hope you get it running strong again! If so will you shoot a short vid of it? I wanna see what an honest 12HP (or real close) looks like.

Gotta be worth a try I did get a video of it on the dyno, but it didn't save Hopefully I'll be able to get a video of a true 14HP next time it's on the dyno :burnout:
