Ive been wanting to try CAD/CNC for headpipes to cut down the build times and make it where I can build the same pipe as before.I asked my friend,Dave to help with a CAD design, then transfer it to a DXF file to the plasma cutter. Here is the results; Plasma cut vid; I rolled the cutouts on my newest tool,a Grizzly 12" roller,a real time saver too! Here are the rolled cones ready for welding; A vid of me welding the headpipe; Here is the finished product, much easier than my old methods!

That's awesome John! The finished product looks great. Is that more sections than usual, or does it look a little smoother from clean cuts/ease of welding, and more uniform rolling? I'm really glad to see you putting the new toys to work.
With the time it takes to do the CAD stuff, is it still faster?

Thanks guys, the segments are evenly spaced,so it looks smoother.Much easier fit up,it'll be a better quality pipe for sure. This is an experimental C21 replica that I'm building all CAD/CNC.Will keep y'all posted..

Does the cutter leave the pieces a little more brittle at the cuts? Is any clean up involved?

Thanks Jason!! Reg,with some metals it leaves a fine slag that is hard as tool steel! We cut some 4130 chrome moly plate and punched some pilot holes for drilling only to find a carbide bit was needed..The mild steel cuts clean with only a tiny bit of slag that pops off with a wood chisel,it is slightly harder at the cuts, but works easily..

Where did you find that neat little slip roller and how much was it if you don't mind my asking?

Update;got the rest cut out, here is a vid; Did up some headpipe flanges too; A pic of the pipe body welded up, The CNC cutting eliminates the human error and makes a very uniform pipe.. Wonder how it would cut a cylinder base spacer??

That looks really good! Base spacers, reed spacers, and exhaust brackets, all come to mind for other cutting projects. I guess you could even cut your own custom shims for the vari so you didn't have to stack a bunch of .1 to 1mm shims once you knew what you needed. I'm sure you'll find more scooter related used over time.

I just worked out that my Yasuni C16 is made of over 30 different pieces welded together, no wonder it was $400.
