What's up everybody ? I just joined the forum recently but this is my first time posting anything. For the most part Ive just been reading over all the threads and I must say 49cc scoot.com has some of the best scooter mechanics I have come across in awhile. It is nice to be surrounded by a wealth of knowledge at your finger tips ! But moving right along I am the proud owner of a 2014 tao tao 50cc scoot. Im in the process of upgrading as much of those cheap chinese stock parts as I possibly can and that sealed carburetor is one of the first things on the list. So I ordered a Naraku 50-90cc racing carburetor ( at least that is what they are calling it ). I also ordered a Kehin pd19j carb from NCY. My question is between the two which of those carburetors should I install on my scoot ? The second runner up will be used as an emergency back up until such time is deemed necessary. Thanks guys and be honest !!

According to their descriptions the Naraku carbs are 18, 20, and 24mm. Depends which one you got. If you got the 18-20mm, I'd say either that or the 19mm will be fine and in stock forum I doubt you'd notice much difference. Maybe with a big bore kit the larger ones would do slightly better. If you have the 24mm, then use the 19mm until you've got a big bore kit and other mods.

Thanks for taking time to respond brent. I have read just about everything you have posted about scooters including the videos and wanted to thank you for your inspiration and wisdom. In regards to the carburetor question Im not exactly sure of the exact size of the Naraku. On their website it was listed only as a 50 - 90 cc "racing carb" for the gy6 139qmb engine. I have no doubt that what you say is true because I have seen the other carb sizes listed. If I was a betting man I would say the chances are good it is most likely a 19 mm but definitely no larger than a 20. And if that is the case then my next question is in your honest opinion do you think the Naraku carburetors are a better quality than keihin carbs ? I was leaning slighty more in favor of Naraku but that is just my opinion. I cant say either way because I have never owned a Naraku or a keihin. As of right now my scooter is 100 % stock but I have already ordered and recieved just about everything needed to start the transformation. The only thing Im waiting on right now are cvt components. I wont do the bbk until later so hopefully this information will give you a better idea. Thanks again !

They should say only that description or be followed by V.2 or V.3. Naraku also usually has part numbers that you can look up.
Some of the Naraku carbs are Keihin carbs. I'd expect any of their stuff to be decent. I wouldn't hesitate to use either brand.

I put the Kehin on my TaoTao 50. They ship with the needle set at the midway point, and on mine that made the top-end too rich, so I had to move the clip to the top of the needle. After that it worked great.
I just recently upgraded by TaoTao further by installing a big bore kit (80cc bore), and then I rejetted the Kehin with a #110 main and a #35 pilot. The same needle setting worked well for it.
I haven't tried any other carbs (other than the stock one), but I can tell you the Kehin works well both with the stock engine and can supply a big bore after a jet change.
