:stumped: hey guys, I just bought a 150cc velocity scooter and it tops out at like 45-50 mph, and Im trying to get it to go faster, and I was wondering if any of you could help point me in the right direction. I have already gotten a CDI upgrade and installed a racing clutch and was wondering what I should do next. thanks.

How many miles or clicks do you have on the engine? Make sure it's broken in first. Don't baby it, but don't rev it to the redline either. If it's not broken in then you haven't achieve your max. speed. I hate to tell you this, but you could have spent your money on things that would have made a bigger difference than the two you did. Variator weights-Several mile an hour can be achieved by changing the weights. Your going to have to have a tach. for this, if you don't already have one. Your looking for a steady 6500 rpm, or so, through the variator gear range. Until your topped out. You need to measure your current weights and find out what your running now. Too light and you won't get in high gear. Too heavy and you'll shift into high too soon. These next changes will also add to the top speed, to a varying degree, but mostly improve the acceleration. Exhaust- Ditch the stock pipe Air Filter-A Free flowing one Jets-After you make the above change-start with a 35 pilot and a 118 main. Your going to have to learn how to read your plug and jet your carb. My 150cc will do 60ish with the above modifications, but that's wide open. Lots of good info on this web site and on these. scooterrebels.proboards.com/index.cgiscootdawg.proboards.com/index.cgi?RD

That's a bit slow for stock, should be closer to 50-55. Have you hooked a GPS onto the handlebars and checked for your actual MPH? Chinometers are always off. 12g sliders are a good starting point on the 150s. My scoots came with 112, and 120 main jets. I havn't done anything with the airbox, or exhaust yet so havn't had to mess with the jets yet. (key word yet ) I changed out the coil, and cdi to performance/unrestricted, and with the sliders got a smoother ride...doesn't ad to top end. I put in this performance clutch pully, with their longer gates belt www.shop.kidnmekarts.com/Performance-Pulley-150cc-Performance-Pulley-150cc.htm for a little 2-3 mph gain, and an A8 cam for another 2 mph gain. I did gain a bit more with an A9 cam (2-4 gain), but it was a trade off with the extra noise 9 (valve clacking), so went with the A8.

Check/clean the CVT drive and replace the rollers/belt if they look worn out. The 150's use 18x14mm weights. I think stock ones are around 11 or 12 grams.
Here's a video that shows how to do it:

Thanks. I probably should have mentioned it has just under 3000miles on it so I'm not sure if its still being broken in. It steady revs at about 7,000-7,300 rpm and if i take it close to 8,000 rpm I can hit 50mph. At the shop they suggested that I modify the coil next. Though I think i will do the air filter and exhaust myself before going back.

Have you changed the oil at regular intervals?

So you bought it recently used, yes at 3000miles that puppies broken in My stock rollers were 15.5, and 15. The 12 gram sliders seemed the most recommended for the 150, and I am very happy with that in mine. Definately change your oil, and gear oil. And if it hadn't been done before it probably is time to replace the rollers anyway (I'd say go with sliders when you do) and at 3000 miles it's also a good time to look at the belt and clean up the belt area like Fox said if you didn't when you replaced the clutch. Just cleaning up and doing those regular maintenance things might be all you need to get it closer to where it should be.
