Long story short when out with the wife on a long ride through Toronto yesterday and on the way home with about 2KM/1.5Miles when there was a loud bang and the scooter stops moving. Walked it home took off the side cover to discover fluff and scraps of belt. It was the OEM belt that I bough last September it had about 1500-1600Kms/1000Miles on it . I have a spare belt lucky enough but does it go on in a certen way? Like a unidirectional tyre? And how do I know which way? Thanks mates

If the belt has to be installed in a certain direction it should have arrows printed on it. If i am not mistaken the arrows should point towards the vario so if you look at the whole CVT arrows should point left from the clutch to the vario. Make sense?

Check the pulley sheaves and make sure they spin freely like they are supposed to. They may be hanging up.. Also some CVT venting may help too.

If it has arrows on it I put it on so the arrows go along with rotation. Otherwise I always install belts so the letters/numbers are facing me (right side up as I'm installing).

I agree with birdman that a full inspection is in order including complete disassembly of the Torque Driver (rear) pulley to check for wear on the seals, sheave pins/slots and a re-grease. If the slots in the torque driver are worn and the grease had dried up then it won't open smoothly and that causes excessive heat in the belt.

I was only asking because when I replaced my Honda's belt it had arrows on it. This one doesn't. I was thinking of checking the rear pulley assembly after seeing what's left of the belt. Because what I thought might of bine flat spots on my rollers probably was the rear pulley sticking. Thanks Mates will let you all know as soon I have time to investigate. Four children take a lot of my time

Had time to take a closer look at what is left of the OEM belt and it shredded it self to just fluff and small chunks of rubber . It took me 20 minutes to clean out all the scrap that was left. The Clutch assembly moved smooth with no hesitation. Replaced the spring that came with the Stag6 Variatior kit with the red spring that was in it when I got it(same tension strength slightly smaller height) reassembled and reinstalled with new belt and she runs great. Gotta get some grease from work and I will disassemble and regrease to be safe. Will let ya'll know results if anything happens.

Took the Vino out for ride last night and had a noticeable lack of acceleration and top speed(70KPH). I'm going back to the Stag6 Contra Spring. It also donned on me as I was riding last that the old belt was a bitch to get onto the Variatior & Clutch(very little slack) but the new one as with every other one I've done had no problems. Could it have bin to small? Even if it was an OEM for a '01 Vino?

Always check the belt length codes and give the belt length and dimensions a quick check to verify. A mark on the belt and rolling it over a metric 'yardstick', meter-stick, or metric tape will confirm length. EDIT- My OEM belt frayed also. I noticed a tick-tick-tick noise from the CVT before I replaced it. I don't think the scoot Distributors and dealers have any idea what length belt is supposed to be on their scoots. My distributor sent me an OEM belt that was too short also. It will 'work' so I keep it as a spare. I use a brick mason finishing tool to slip my belt on. www.amazon.com/Kraft-Tool-RO5321-1-2X5-Concave/dp/B00TBJYP0M/I think I use a 5/8" end on the tool.

It may need to wear in a bit?
I cant remember if the vino used the 788 17 28 belt or?
I have a Dr Pulley variator, and it has been flawless. I have also changed contra springs and am still looking for the perfect balance. I also have some belt slip or clutch slip going on ATM. Are you using the stock 2 shoe clutch?

I own the Manuel for the Vino and it doesn't have the belt size in it other then the width is 16.6mm. But from what I can find the belt is 748x17/18. I believe its the stock Clutch Shoes on it haven't really looked to much at them will take a look at them tomorrow when I change back to the Stag6 Contra Spring.

Went back to the Stage6 Contra Spring cleaned and greased clutch. Can't say top speed is back from the quick ride between work and home(only 1.5Km/1Mile) but acceleration is back and its smoother too.

I assume you inspected the pulley faces for nicks and dings that can cause premature belt wear? They can be smoothed out with emory cloth.

Faces were smooth with no nicks or noticeable catches
