Ok so what would be a 2t to look at? whether used or new? I dont know the brands/models. This taotao was my first and only so its all i know. If i was to peruse around craigslist or the used cycles places around town, what would be something to look for? Keep in mind i will need to stay 50cc and upgrade it Kymco, genuine, Eton, vento, cpi, Yamaha etc. Lots of brands to choose from. The China stuff like the vento triton I've seen with about a dozen different names

OK, I am relatively new to this forum and I just have to ask...why 2T and 4t? What the heck does the T stand for? I know how they are used and all (2 stroke, 4 stroke) ...I got that much...but I can not figure out the T part. Probably very simple and I will feel stupid for asking but...I have to know.
Thanks,
Bill

T = Takt (German for cycle)
It's not just the forum. You can find oils that way. For example, I know Mobil 1 used to (maybe still does) make Racing 2T and Racing 4T.

Thanks Brent...geeze, I would have never figured that one out. I am glad I asked, ha ha. Bill PS Do the Chinese know that we are using German terminology to describe their engines? Or the Japanese? Or the Italians? Or the Koreans?

Thats pretty cool to know. Ive never even thought to ask. I wanted but never thought about it. I just always went with 2 stroke and 4 stroke. Thanks for asking that question and thanks for the good answer.
Love this forum!!

You might as well just get A Yamaha Jog, A 2t Zuma, or a Honda Elite 50 2001 or older.

The 05 and older have 14.64 gears a 2 shoe 105mm clutch and dual angle groove torque driver. The 08 and newer have 13.25 gears a 3 shoe 107mm clutch and a straight groove torque driver a cat in the pipe and a carb with a throttle stop. My opinion is you want to shoot for 10 to 11:1 range for gear ratio and you can get there with either year range. Other than the minor differences they all make a good build start point
