in a pinch if oil isnt registering on the dipstick can i dill it up with 10w30? i dont think it has any oil in it honestly

I don't see why not, but you may want to wait for a few other replies. I actually use Rotella 15w40 in mine and it works great. It has a higher zinc content. Actually I use Rotella 15w40 in everything I have.

10w-30 is fine to use. I use 10w-30 synthetic in my 4t's.

I run 10w-30 from Oct 1 to May 1 then I run straight 30w during the warm season. I find this works better than using 15w-40.

Guy at an Oil changer said to me oil is oil. He didn't look like rocket scientist but that's all he does all day long. So I believed him. Any weight synthetic.

In a scooter engine 10-30 and heavier may apply to the oil is oil theory. Late model cars with VVT, displacement on demand, or any other type of hydraulic timing or cam manipulation device is different. The passages and the toleration of sludge or particle build up is pretty dang low. Some of the oiling passages are freaking tiny. Both our cars call for 5w20 now. My old car was 0w20, that's some seriously thin stuff. Pours out of the bottle like water. Anyway, 10-30 should be good for moderate temps and in winter. Heavier oil when it's hot or climbing lots of hills and carrying lots of weight.

Hence the two stoke, I actually need the power.

I've said it before, you can use virgin olive oil if you want, but it wont make your scooter a Lambretta.
