The guy emailed me again at 3AM. He said he would call me in the AM and he and his father would be here to pick it up in the early afternoon. Seemed really eager to get it. Great.
He just called. His first question was, "How far are you from Philly?". My address is on the CL add, I gave it to him again last night, and gave him directions to get here as if he were local. I said, "Uh, I've never been there, but I'm in the middle of the Eastern Shore of MD." He says, "Oh man, so pretty far. Is there any way to take it back other than a truck?" I said, "A trailer.". He said, "Are there back roads for me to ride it back?" I said, "Well, I'm guessing it's about a 4 hour ride (I looked it up, 2hr30 by car on highways), so that would be a lot of back roads to figure out." So then he said he really wants it, but he won't ask me to hold it because he doesn't have a truck or anything and I can probably sell it.
I'm quickly reminded of why I never sell stuff. This is exactly why my Venus is still sitting in my garage. I don't have any real plans to ride it, I just hate dealing with this stuff. It always feels like I'm the only person that prepares for anything. For example; if I say I want it and I'll be there to pick it up, I already know exactly how I'm getting it, am planning to show up 15 minutes early, and I will be able to deliver on what I promise short of circumstances beyond my control or the seller changing the story or misrepresenting something. I already had a bill of sale printed out, filled out an odometer disclosure statement that I don't even think is required just so he'd be certain to have anything he needed from me, etc... and he wouldn't have to wait for me to get anything ready if he was short on time.

Iv only sold one item on CL, a hot tub. What a nuance that was. The back and forth, they came out several times to look at it. Asked the same questions over and over. It would of been easier to have kept it and mad it into a koi pond.
Hope this guy buys it and you can be done with it, Good luck.

I'm getting a for sale sign today so it can go out in the yard too, but that's kinda the same. People ring the doorbell, try to haggle you down to nothing, wanna kick the tires, waste 30 minutes wandering around it and then never show up again. The only thing I ever sold in my yard that was super easy was a drum kit. I was still setting it up when a guy stopped. I told him the price. He was excited that he could get it for his son to learn, and gave me $50 to hold it till the afternoon. He stopped back in as he said with the rest of the cash and loaded it up. If I ever flip anything, I think it would be drum kits.

Sounds like the typical craigslist bs. I usually get city boys coming to my area and the wife freaks out. If he wants it bad enough he will find a way to get it. I once drove a bit further south then you are, from the Philadelphia area to pick up a scooter. How did I get it back you ask... Inside of a Honda Civic. Slight disassembly required. I have pictures to prove it.

I've got a truck and trailer nowadays. Not looking for a 4 poke those valve things scare me You might want to list it on the Philadelphia craigslist anything motorsport related is really over priced here. People may make the trip to save some money.

I stuck it out in the yard today. One guy stopped to take pics and left as I was going out there. Then I was outside washing the Mustang at about 5PM and a truck pulled up to me. He said he's doing a job up the road and has some leftover stones and he has a friend that needs a bike. Wanted to know if we could make a deal for him to take the leftover stones from that job and spread them in my driveway. I asked, "Even up?". And he started with the, "Wellll, uuhhh, ummmm". Long story short, I won't be getting my driveway redone and his friend won't be getting a new ride.

The guy from Philly called me back. Seems to want me to deliver it. I told him I'm not interested. He said he has no transportation, but his neighbor has a truck. He wanted to know if I could meet him halfway. I told him I'd go as far as Dover, DE. That's about 1hr15-1hr30 from me. He said that sounds good. I told him I'm not doing it for free though, I'd want $550 (an extra $50) if I have to meet him. I said I think that's fair for a few hours of my time plus gas.... plus the fact that I don't want to deliver it that far and I may be taking a risk that he gets there and says he has $450 or doesn't show or some BS. His tone changed, like he wanted me to meet him for free, and he said he'll get back to me. Sadly, this is my best lead so far.

I would ask for a deposit via PayPal incase of a no show to cover your expenses.

But from a buyer's standpoint that could potentially be a scam. I am in no way insinuating that it would go down like that. But if I were to buy a scoot under those conditions... Well I would have brought a truck in the first place and picked it up. *shrug*

If I asked for a deposit it would be of the $50. Non-refundable delivery fee, not the cost of the scoot. As far as fear of being scammed for the buyer; I don't even want to deliver. He's asking me. I'd prefer that someone shows up here, so delivery money only comes into play when the buyer wants that. That said, the way it's gone so far, I can't see this guy dealing with PayPal. He still doesn't seem to have bothered to look at a map yet, as first he thought Baltimore was between him and I, and it's not. I'd beg him to do a little homework before calling me again if I thought it would do any good.

If your not hurting for the cash, Id hold out and find another more motivated buyer. Just tell him you dont have the spare time to take that risk. Id be pissed if I drove for an hour and the guy decided to back out then bone ya on the deliver fee.
I drove over an hour to look at a scooter with the intentions of buying. It looked nothing like the pictures I was sent. I was pissed. Plus that was when diesel fuel was expensive. 50 bucks out the tail pipe for nothing.

I'm not in desperate need of the cash immediately. My motivation is more to get this nonsense over with. Thinking about it more, I may be better off to leave it though. If he can't be bothered to look at the map on the ad or the address I've given him, he may not even have looked the scooter over. I may show up and he thought he was buying a 49cc Yamaha.

I guess I am just showing my age. LOL I don't have time for the BS. This stuff should be easy. You list it. They call. Set up a time to meet. Meet, checkout and negotiate. Deal or No Deal.

Craigslist saps your faith in humanity. I am amazed at how some of these folks even make it through life!
