I have a scooter that i've been trying to get running for a while now.
50cc Bashan
I finally got it started and it idled, carb adjusted etc. I went for a test ride and it started to sputter out.
I checked it out and lots of oil in the air box and dripping from somewhere. I also noticed a vent tube that came off the top of the motor near the carb with oil on it.
Does anyone have any ideas of what is wrong?
It has lived a long life of 13,101 miles.
Did it just give up? bad rings? bad vent tube? cracked head? other ideas?

Did you pull the oil strainer to see if there's metal floating around in there?
The oil coming from the tube means that crankcase pressure is too high probably because there's clogged oil return passages in the cylinder head so the oil comes in from the pump but does not drain back down so it all comes out of the crankcase vent tube into the air box finally puddling on the ground. I'd say the engine is probably due for a complete replacement or just buy a different scooter altogether with the same design and you'll have some spare parts.

With 13,000 miles, I'd suspect a possible piston ring issue.

Thanks for the info everyone. I am going to do an oil change and check the vent tubes again and if that doesn't work I'll pull the motor and inspect and possibly order a new top end kit.

Is the oil overfilled? To much oil in engine will also cause this.

I did a fresh oil change today and added about 700mls
I took the plug out to dry everything out, and cranked it over, and gas came out of the cylinder.
Hopefully it will dry out and restart...if not i'll be looking for a used/new motor, or a top end rebuild.

UPDATE:
Well After an oil change and new plug, I was able to get my scooter started and idling. I took it for a test ride and at low throttle it was accelerate, but at wide open throttle it bogs pretty noticeably.
I only ut back on 1/2 of the air box because it's still drying from when i cleaned it after oil got everywhere.
If I used an A/M air filter will the carb need to be re-jeted? Will the complete air box help?
How can i get rid of this bog?

Put the air box back together, completely.

I put the full airbox back on and it runs much better. The bog is pretty much gone.
But my RPM gauge seems to not work correctly. I starts way to the right and only goes to about 4K RPM's. Is this electrical or mechanical?
Is it adjustable, or could something else be wrong? A bad connection on a wire or is the rectifier going bad?

Thumbs up to you! Also, how much was the speedo, and does it work well? Easy install?

Here's a video of my GY6 150 comparing the Stock Tach to the Tiny Tach. Big difference. Don't use the stock tach for tuning. RD
