To the above comment I will add I've had tuning issues with a brand new Polini pwk, swapped my genuine keihin no more issues. I was the mixture adjustment oring/ lack of sealing washer. Do you have a known good large bore carburetor you can try out?

Thanks fellas- not exactly the news I wanted to hear but of course it's nice to have this info! I'm finally getting things dialed in on this scoot and this is basically the furthest I've gotten tuning-wise without some kind of major blunder (on my part usually). I'm taking it easy and racking up some mild miles for now. Still a ways to go on the carb tune so I don't want to give up on this carb just yet. I'm regaining some trust in this old wasp and getting further and further from home the better I get it tuned. Home Depot trip today...

Hey hey I haven't given up on this old beast yet! Almost, but not quite haha. I can't even remember where I left off so I'll just post what I did to it this weekend... After another family trip up to Michigan and just being really busy, a bunch of little items that I ordered from feebay all came in and I decided to put it all on this weekend. First, A voltmeter! With running this electric fuel pump I have "voltage anxiety" and need to know how the battery is doing at all times. Check! Hole drilled... It works! I also installed a switch to the fuel pump since sometimes I just want to shut it off while I'm tracking down electrical bugs. It's the little blue switch up next to the blinker switch... I also finally received the PiFi filter from Canada but don't even get a spark when it's installed. Hmm. I also installed the Uni filter with 30 degree bend that I ordered. Kinda hits the frame a bit- really needs at least 45 degree bend. Oh, I also got the new black clutch and brake levers installed as the clutch lever has been broken off short ever since I've owned it. The full lever is nice- especially since I have stiff springs installed in the clutch but I don't much care for the hand position there and how much "pull" there is. The brake lever on the other side that came on it is a "dogleg" lever and I've painted it black to use on the clutch side. It's much more comfortable on the hand. Since most of the stuff I did this weekend was really more just cosmetics/little items, I finally installed the T5 horncover I ordered long ago from S.I.P. I painted it with maroon primer that somewhat matches the paint- not really but better than just plain white- and after a few mods badaboombadabing we have a P series scoot with a T5 horncover! The stockophiles would have a cow lol. I'm honestly not sure what I think of it but I figure I'll leave it on for a while and see if it grows on me. Maybe I'll rub it down with some steel wool so it matches the patina of the rest of the bike a bit better so it doesn't stick out like a sore thumb so much... Whatchyall think about it??

Me wants Ya I know right? ryan_ott mentioned way back in the beginning that I should just make it rip and leave the paint as-is. Everytime I ride it I get a ton of comments and compliments about it being an old scoot that I don't think I'd get it if had a shiny new paint job. I've really wanted the full Polini paint job since the beginning and now I'm having second thoughts. However, my latest thoughts are to still do the Polini paint job (I desperately want that Jeep blue/gray color!) but make it "patina'd" Like age the paint so it looks like an old scoot. I thought I'd be there by now! haha.

Hmm, that's an idea that I like. It'll look great no matter what ya do to it. It's just one of those scoots that doesn't know how to be not cool. It's in its DNA to be cool. Like them girls that try to be nerdy or whatever, but you just know they're like, omg gorgeous

My opinion:
Fuck paint
Paint is stupid
Brakes, suspension, engine.
Like an old fit person. They can bench press a ton, but still look rugged from the outside

First worry about getting it reliable, and riping up the streets. I'm all about the sleeper look. Rough on the outside but badass underneath. Plus it makes all the nice shiny parts standout against the patina. If you do paint it flat it out do it looks aged but gloss your "polini" decal. You could always clear it later if you decided to do so. Whatever you do get those bugs out!

You should have come to the rally in April. You would have seen a couple of nice pretty bikes Like this Or this But guess what, those bike did not get ridden, They were there to look at. Here is the baddest ASS bike there. He went on the high speed loop and blew every one away! How fast does it go? Who knows? That's his speedo cable hanging from the front wheel . The Cheetak in the background took the prize for best original vintage. So tape up that original seat and slap that baby on there and let's go!

It's been so long since I've worked on the Vespa I forgot what's even wrong with it right now. lol Just kidding. It runs but like crap. Some kind of electrical issue. Basically the same as it was early on when it was misfiring and then I installed a new battery which magically fixed the problem. I wish I knew exactly what happened and why the new battery fixed it as it's doing basically the same thing now even with the battery in it. Of course I've made a lot of electrical changes in the mean time so that only further complicates things. I did come across some interesting parts on S.I.P. however that have given me an idea. They sell a plate that goes behind the stator to space it out a bit and line it up with the pickup coil better. I'm going to tear into it now and space the stator out with some washers and see if I can make some progress! Oh btw I did finally receive my PiFi from Canada a few weeks ago. I have no spark when I install it. Take it off, spark is fine. Put it back in, no spark...

Made some more progress on this cranky old beast! I don't even where to start as I've been trying so many little things here and there with it. It's disgustingly hot in the Tampa area lately so my sessions with it have been shorter than usual. I usually give up sweating, out of breath, and my foot and leg aching from kicking it over and over again. Today is not much different but I have a ray of hope now due to the problem I discovered and fixed so I kept at the kicking. She's running! Well, atm it's sitting outside cooling down as it will only stay running at about 4,000 RPM's and it sprung a big ol' fuel leak. That's ok though! It's running, sounds good, and I'm making progress! Like I said, I've done a bunch of little things to it lately but here's what I believe was the main culprit and what I've done to solve it so far... I decided a while back- after having thoughts of just unloading this b!t@h on Craigslist- that I'm not going to give up on this P200. I'm going to do everything in my power to make it run again and make it strong. I so enjoyed the few days that I had it running nicely and well, I suppose it's a matter of pride also. I don't give up easily! Even when I had it running and driving most recently it wasn't running correctly- a lot of sputtering and misfiring and whatnot but it's still capable of 50mph even running like crap! I decided if I have to replace every single component on this bike to get it to fire and run correctly, well that's what I'd do! I've done a few things recently like replace the regulator/rectifier with a typical Chinese one like we have in our modern scoots. I tried this a while back but couldn't get it to work correctly and with a lot of electrical mishaps while I was still getting to know this scoot, I'm pretty sure my stock regulator is fried. Of course I have the dang rare stator that's hard to find parts for and takes the 5 wire regulator but I recently found the .Pdf diagram of the one that BGM sells and got it figured out! (I was missing the jumper wire between the AC pins). So now that's working correctly but still the crappy orange and purple spark and misfiring and fouling plugs. Grrr.... Now recently during an all night read-till-your-eyes-bleed marathon I came across a part that S.I.P. sells that spaces out the stator so that it lines up with the flywheel/trigger better and that gave me an idea. Maybe my flywheel isn't lined up correctly?? I used some washers and spaced the stator out a bit- of course I pinched a wire while tightening it back down and shorted it out on the frame and had to take it back out and replace a few melted wires uggh- but I won't bore you with those details haha. With the stator now spaced out I still didn't see much improvement in the spark. Still a crappy looking orange and purple weak ass spark. Now mind you while I'm doing these things I'm also trying out every single other possible thing I can think of like dozens of different spark plugs, different coils wired in weird ways etc. After failure upon failure I finally decided that my flywheel must be toast. The magnets seem strong enough and do hold a 19mm wrench like it's supposed to, but I decided to send it off to ScooterWest for re magnetization anyway. I did research remagging it myself 190mech, but just decided to send it in... Well, I've had that document/estimate from Scooterwest sitting here all ready to go and filled out (it's $45.00 + $16.86 shipping btw) but have been hesitant to send it off. After taking some time to re-read through my build thread I came across the crank documentation that talked about using a lightened flywheel so the crank doesn't break and that reminded me that I was about to send the wrong fywheel in to be remagged. I need to use this lightened flywheel! Of course, I've been using the stock flywheel and it's perfectly lapped to the crank so I decided to prepare the lighter PX flywheel (with steel e-start gear ring removed) and lap it to my crank. What I found what quite dismaying- when I started lapping it, I could see that only about 1/2" of it was correctly making contact with the crankshaft! That's not gonna work! I kept lapping and cleaning and lapping for about an hour and actually gave myself a big huge blister on my thumb from grinding that flywheel on the crank with pressure. The crank did get somewhat damaged way back in the beginning when I was shearing flywheel keys but I realize it was this bad. When I finally finished I had a nice even contact patch the whole way through the crankshaft/flywheel taper. Went from only 1/2" contact to more like 4 inches! This gave me an idea so I re-installed the stator and wired it up and torqued the flywheel back on. We now have a nice strong blue/white spark. BOOOYYAAAHH!! I FOUND THE FRICKEN PROBLEM!! That brings us to today- I'm getting the engine to fire up and run nicely now but I still have a little work getting the carb dialed in to work with this fuel pump.
There is hope yet!!!
