Lol yes I think it's the latter- it takes deep Zen meditation to learn all about these rotary valve beasts and try to strategically plan your modification purchases! Hehe- yep I've been reading till my eyes bleed every night and putting together a shopping list of upgrade parts!

Yessir! There are kits available to convert to reed valve but they're very expensive and then there's a ton of crap that needs to be done to the cases and crank- if not use a "reed valve crank"... Pretty much everything I've read says keep it rotary unless the internal pads are damaged. That's what I'm doing!

First Vespa on the speed list. I GPS'd it at 57mph the other day. Kinda dissapointing for 200cc's and something like 5:1 Fourth gear haha. Hoping to have a 75+ mph cruiser although the Polini kit I ordered is more know for it's low end grunt than higher Revs and top speeds. The Malossi kits for these are the high RPM screamers....

200+cc's performanced out. With a little bit of niz's touch. C'mon....I'm guessing 80mph+ for sure. You know I'll be looking forward to hearing and seeing about what that scoot can really do. We haven't even seen what it's gonna end up looking like. Cosmetic wise.

Well after running the VIN on this scoot it turns out it's a 1980- not a '79 like I thought it was! The id tag on the scoot says manufactured in 12/1979 so I guess that makes sense. Changing Thread title now . Another thing I keep reading about these P series scoots is what year they were made and what carb came on them. The early P's got the good 24/24 Dellorto's and for 1980 they switched to the smaller 20/20 Dell's to meet stricter environmental regulations. I just checked mine- it's a 20/20 Dell. Darn. Good thing it's gettin a Polini 28mm PWK with matching intake!

Got this little gem in the mail today from Puerto Rico- a PX e-start flywheel! Yep- it came wrapped in a dog food bag haha. Of course, my scoot doesn't have electstart but I've read that you can remove the steel gear ring from it and it will be considerably lighter than stock. A cheap and easy lightened flywheel mod! I won it for $5 on feebay plus $13 shipping...
