Said the same thing growing up seeing stangs all over. Then i got my 86 and was like "Oh, now i get it".
ososlow, An LTD foxbody? Like that 78 Fairmont in the vid? Good choice. Make sure to take all that "luxury packing" out though!

Mustangs are similar to GY6 scooters in a lot of ways. Originally Mustangs were made to be a cheap sports car that the average young person could afford. They were assembled cheaply using many parts from other Ford cars. A lot of the unibody was left raw and unpainted. Ford thought they would be disposed of after 4-5 years, similar to a GY6. Smart that Ford did not change the basic 5.0 for 40 years. Its fantastic how many parts are interchangable over the years. For example, I have a 5 speed transmission from a 91GT in my 66. Ford released their patents so that any part you can think is available in the huge aftermarket. I will keep enjoing my Mustang and my GY6 for pennies on the dollar compaired to the expensive top of the line vehicles out there. The GY6 and Mustang are so simple that anyone can learn to maintain it.

6198 is the Gross Vehicle Weight Rating. That's the weight of the vehicle plus passengers and load that is considered safe by the manufacturer. The curb weight is something lower than that. Probably closer to 4000-4500lbs. Regardless, still a hoss.

oh yea i ment the ltd didn't move to the fox body chassis till '79. the 351m engine is kinda cool ... i think neways. its basically a 351c block with a taller deck, and a 351w crank. it does only have the C's 2v heads but the 4v heads and I'm bolt right to it. alas 460BBs are a dime a dozen around here and you only need to change the motor mounts to put it in. it will even bolt right up to the trans.

www.mustangweek.com/home.shtmlYou guys don't have that far to travel you know... Every day there are different events. They tour a few tracks, set up all kinds of events / shows, have sponsors from all over the country, and I usually see more than a few cars running over 1,000 HP. Yeah, OVER a thousand. More Fox's are ALWAYS welcome! Lame 4.6's account for every other car on the streets all week long. You'll see everything from barn finds, to cars with six digits in them $$$,$$$.$$. It's pretty cool.

Thanks for the pics. :thumb:
I may not have a really long haul, but I'd like to have it as close as it is to you. lol 12MPG makes about any distance seem far. No heat, no AC, no sound deadening, no stereo, it's a vert so it's drafty, etc.... doesn't help either, but I've spent many consecutive hours driving it that way when gas prices were a lot different. I remember years ago I took a girl out to OC, MD... 3 hours or more in the car altogether... in the coldest part of winter.... and I coulda used a different vehicle or drove her car. "But you don't have heat!" "But you've got a jacket." Now you know why I'm still single. lol

Ah sweet! Man, you guys on this forum just get cooler and cooler and cooler! Much love My dad bought a 1984 Fox Body the year I was born. He always took immaculate care of it. A few years ago, he began to completely rebuild it and turn it into a barely street legal (has special plates and limitations) hot rod. He loves cars like I love motorcycles. He did all the work himself, including redesigning the carburetor (his specialty and a side business). He takes it to all the shows and plans on taking it to the drag strip this summer. Here are a couple videos of it: He and I were never close growing up. But, after I got into motorcycles, we found something to bond over. We "talk shop" for hours on end when we get together now. Great father/daughter bonding, for sure.

One time I ran out of gas up in Wa. state back in '87 and a state patrol stopped and gave me a ride to the gas station in a 5.0 interceptor. Most powerful car I've ever been in. Awesome acceleration. Not sure if it was turbocharged or blown or what but it sure was a memorable experience. Looked like the one in this video.

LJ : You've got a badass dad and it looks like he's made one super clean car.
Fox : Never heard of a supercharged 5.0 SSP. Not saying it wasn't though. I've heard rumors of all sorts of law enforcement agencies supercharging different cars for pursuit duty. Dunno what your experience is with cars and stangs in particular, but a fox body 5.0 coupe is a pretty fast car stock, more so if they chose a 5 speed.
