Well I know I'm deaf. But I'll ask the same question 3 times and get a completely different answer every time. Just read through my Connecting Rod thread. I asked the same question 3 or 4 times and never got an answer. At work I'll tell someone to do something and they'll do the exact opposite of what I instructed them to do. It's day to day I swear I don't speak English or I don't understand it or both. And if memory serves me I'm about 37 or 38. I think two decades of breathing toxic welding fumes might be a part of it but not all of it.

Find a course in communication. Many High Schools or community colleges offer them for low cost (sometimes free) as part of Adult Education. Being able to speak, read and write English well isn't enough. You also have to learn to communicate effectively. This helps on the job as well as your personal life. I took a course that was 2 days, 1 night each week for 4 hours for 2 weeks. It helped me greatly.

Maybe it's the people you are speaking to. Maybe it would be beneficial if you had them repeat what you told them just to make sure you are on the same page.

That is where a communication class will be beneficial. They teach not only how to get your point across, but also to reat if the other person got it.

Just read through my Connecting Rod thread. I asked the same question 3 or 4 times and never got an answer. In some situations, it's not anything you've done. You asked about crank truing. I know there are people here that know a lot more about crank work than I do, so I tend to leave it for them. Not your fault. Sometimes people don't check back. Sometimes someone may not read every post before replying. Sometimes we forget about a specific question by the time we read all the way through. Not making excuses, it's just how this stuff goes at times.

The language center in my brain took a big hit from my strokes. It mainly hurts with verbal communication and not written communication.

The ability to express oneself I believe lies in the richness of exposure to and the inclination to comprehind ideas outside one's normal scope of experience. In other words, the exercise of a curious mind unfettered by cultural, political or religious boundries to whatever extient that is possible. Expression of thought, both verbally and written draws upon the wealth of exposure to other's processes of interpreting ideas. This is much the same as Senna1rossi expressed about reading extensively.

Clank,You are just fine, the rest of the world is nuts!I read a tech article on vocal instruction, seems that most folks retain 1/3 of what is said..I totally agree with this! The younger folk are grafted to their "smart" phones and are brain dead otherwise, they are too busy with their own affairs to really focus on their actual paid job even if many peoples lives are at risk..Today it is rare to find someone who is willing to get a tough job done without taking a 'phone break' every 5 minutes..Guess thats why I work by myself!!

Amen brother. That's why my 4lbs hammer went hurdling 8 stories down at a crane cab when the operator "accidentally" bumped the controls as we where setting a 4600lb ridge beam with both I and a co-worker up underneath it in very tight quarters 160ft up. I had just pulled my arm out when all of the sudden the beam slammed down on the column that we where both hanging off of. I would've lost my arm at the shoulder. Why did this happen, cause the shit head was playing a game on his phone and his game avatar died. Just thinking about gets my blood boiling all over again......

Personally I think those MF's that play with their phones while operating equipment should have a permanent 'accident' of their own.
