I was headed to a friend's house this morning in the truck. Going down a back road, maybe a mile from my destination, I caught up to a Honda Civic just as he was turning onto the same road I needed to take. We made the turn and he was doing about 35MPH in a 40MPH zone. I saw a black car sitting at the end of a driveway up ahead. Looked like a Crown Vic, but I convinced myself that perhaps it was a Lincoln or just someone pulling out of their driveway. Well, this Civic was red with a black hood, lowered down, custom wheels, and some slogan in Spanish on the back. I have a long history of messing with ricers, so I took the chance as I felt it my duty as an American. I pulled out and floored it (not that that's saying much in the truck) and passed him on a double yellow. I'm doing 70-something as I pull back in and become 100% certain that it is indeed a Crown Vic. It is indeed a Crown Vic with gadgets inside and a police officer at the wheel. "Great", I thought, "there go my insurance rates again". I let off of the gas and braked gently. I still passed him at 50+ in the 40 because I practically did this right in front of the cop. I looked back and he never moved. Kept watching and he stayed put. I have no idea why he wouldn't pull me over doing 30+ over the speed limit and passing on a double yellow, but I felt like I won the lottery at the time. I didn't even take that route when leaving my friend's house later for fear that he'd change his mind.

Your truck is too loud, that's why you didnt hear him snoring when you pass him.

I had a similar situation this week. Tuesday I rode up to the state capital (160 mile ride one way) 65mph limit. I was running wot at 85mph. I saw at the distance on the shoulder under the overpass a car. I dropped down to about 70 75, he inched up to get on the road. When I passed him he got on the road. He walked up on me and then passed me. I saw him make a u turn at the next spot ahead. I thought I was getting pulled over, I suspect he ran my tag. Being it was 35-40 degrees out he let me pass.

I don't think the police get there rocks off giving summonses. If you're a little aggressive and calm down. My money's on they will pass up on you. When your excessive they will hammer you. Give them any lip or be any form of a smart ass you're done.

Give them any lip or be any form of a smart ass you're done. John Depends a lot on the officer I think, as well as perhaps what pressure they get from their boss. I've had a cop give me a warning for 120+ in a 50. Plenty have been friendly, even when giving tickets. On the other hand, I've had a cop give me a reckless driving ticket when he never saw me do anything. I've had an officer threaten me with a street racing ticket (here that's 12 points and revocation of license) for passing a car and getting up to about 75 in a 45, then try to convince me that he was feeling nice and only give me the speeding ticket. One basically let a friend and I know that he could give us a bunch of inspection tickets after wandering around our parked cars and seemed he'd do so if neither of us showed interest in some parts he was trying to sell. My friend took down his phone number about a set of mud tires he was selling and the cop then left without issue. Some of them really have a bad attitude and think they own the world or at least their jurisdiction or get off on some kind of power trip. I must say I've encountered more that are either friendly or neutral than mean though in recent years.
